Yes, current Fennec for WinMo does not handle AC3 font that is pre-installed on WinMo devices for East Asia. (See Bug 479548 about AC3 font)

If you install some TrueType fonts, you can see Japanese characters.
Depends on: 479548
I install japanese IPA truetype font
(http://ossipedia.ipa.go.jp/ipafont/)
to windows directory, then change system font to IAP font using pocket hand.

I try to luanch fennec using nighty build(24-Apr-2009 03:08 9.0M).
Then the fennec can not boot every time with crash report.

There are some stack information, however I don't know how to get the error log from winCE...
Let me know if you need more information.
I am not sure but if nightly fennec is debug build, the fennec with Japanese font does not work well due to memory lack.

If you installed both of gothic and mincho, you should be remove the one either.

Which device are you using?
HT-01A?
Yes, HT-01A.
I see that the japanese build can show japanese font.
http://ftp-developer.mozilla-japan.org/pub/mozilla-japan/fennec/development/
However the japanese build still have many problems(jemalloc, etc).
I hope the fennec nightly build also can show japanese font near future.
I've confirmed this crash issue on HTC Touch Diamond.
(with nigtly build 2009/05/06 10:04:00)

Here is the detail:

 * The bug is reproduced when I change the system font (using PocketHand).
 * The bug is also reproduced with VL Gothic. So it's not IPA font specific.
 * The bug isn't reproduced when I specify the default font by prefs.js, regardless of whether I modify system font or not.
So probably it's not caused by memory lacking.
The detail of the setting is http://www.clear-code.com/blog/2009/4/28.html (written in Japanese).

I'll continue to investigate this issue.
I've filed the crash bug as new bug entry, and attached a patch.

From newsgroup:

Wen-Feng (chenwf@gmail.com):
I tried 3 Chinese websites on my HTC touch pro (with windows mobile
6.1) and none of the pages could be displayed correctly. While the
Opera Mobile on the same phone did well.

Our work around for lack of AC3 support (bug 479548) is to include the fonts in localized builds (see bug 491305).
