If quickAccount setup is running and detecting server settings isn't done yet, switching to "advanced options" will create an POP or IMAP account, relating to the current mail-in search routine state. This might result in an POP3 account setup which is not usable and has to be deleted manually for setting up an IMAP account (and vice versa)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open QuickAccount setup
2. enter details for an IMAP only Account
3. click "go to advanced options" while autoconfig is trying POP3 services
Actual Results:
POP3 account is set up

Expected Results:
ask user which type of account should be set up
I don't have imap only accounts - all my accounts do both Pop and Imap. Nikolay could you verify the bug ?

Err, what is Quick Account setup anyway, how do I run it?

click on an existing account name on left hand, then you'll get presented a welcome page with a link for "create a new account" (see bug 499552 for this different behavior to the common account setup)

Click on one account (in the folder list view) - then click on create a new account in the left pane. Quick account jus ask initially for email + name + password.
Confirm for IMAP.

yes, but this is already handled in another request I remember (... see bug 490143 or bug 490418)

this bug should cover just the "creation of an POP account" while there is no POP support when clicking "switch to advanced options"

thanks,
~Marcel

Thanks good to know!

Unfortunately I don't have anymore only pop account since first days of June.

Please prove that black is white a test-case is quite useful but not necessary to approve and fix this bug?! I'm not an mozilla developer atp but I think this will result in changing ONE codeblock (where creation of account is done while hitting "go to advanced settings") not two (if POP or IMAP is used may be irrelevant, cause creation of account has to be stopped if server recognition in quick-account setup is not done yet).
Marcel is the issue still present in 3.0 final ?

Yes it is!! The setup is useful for some cases, but has different very irretating behaviours when "stopping" the auto-detection...
This is one of the things, Mozilla tends to have a label "quality is not our strength" ;(
If there is help needed to get testing systems etc., please announce it so others can help, but please, please take down the "we don't have problems at all and can't test it poster"

sorry for that fretful comment...

can you reproduce this using a current version of thunderbird?

if you are unable to reproduce, please close by setting stats to resolved, and resolution to WORKSFORME or another appropriate setting.

If you are able to reproduce, add new details, and a testcase if one does not already exist in the bug report.
