I'd like to see the following feature in thunderbird. As no one provided an addon patch and it is very annoying that really productivity raising patches have to be patched for each security release of Thunderbird. So please can you integrate the patch into the next version of Thunderbird 2.0 and Thunderbird 3.0

Patch for this bug and new search item.
The patch includes also 2 new search options:
Subject, To, CC
Subject, Sender, To, CC

The patch works now on serveral installations for more than 2 years now without any problems.

Ludovic, just so you know, I am not an officially recognized reviewer, though I do it on occasion when requested by someone who is a reviewer. Also, though I code in filter and search, I mostly do it in the backend, while this is exclusively front end. So I would probably redirect this to Magnus or Philor.

That being said, the issue here is how many total items should be added to the quick search bar. This bug is also closely related to bug 462578 'Quick search should have "Subject or contact (From, To, CC or BCC)" option' which has been slowly moving ahead, and uses the new All Addresses search term.

So I'm going to move the review to philor. Really though clarkbw needs to decide on how many terms should be in quick-search, as that is the key issue not the code.

Gerhard, I can see that this is important to you, as you have been maintaining this on your own custom builds. Have you considered doing this in an extension rather than a custom build?

Yeah, we're definitely not doing both this and the bug 462578 version, and I don't see anyone saying "oh, I'd like to search subject or from or to or cc, but I sure don't want to search bcc wherever it is that it's actually possible to search for it."
