Some searches for "BankEx Firefox" lead to this Bombay Bank Exchange and other Stock exchange tracking addon for Firefox. This one might be the first one to try this out and see if it installs TFPUPWDBankEx.dll https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3381 the addon is offered on amo and several other sites.
I've contacted the thread author in that Forum if he could tell me the details from the file properties.
From a user on sumo, we figured out it is an addon, but he didn't have the addon that was mentioned in Comment 4. He left before he told me what he disabled, but i think it was "CyberSearch"
other comments: "Toshiba fingerprint utility's ""Automatic password input in fx"" add-on causes this crash when starting firefox." there are a number of comments regarding the Toshiba satellite. I'll take another shot at trying to find a connection to which addon/plugin might be behind TFPUPWDBankEx.dll or other .dll's
I checked the download at http://wareseeker.com/free-bombay-sensex/ that firefox addon doesn't contain any binary components so I don't think that is a source for TFPUPWDBankEx.dll
(In reply to comment #6) > From a user on sumo, we figured out it is an addon, but he didn't have the > addon that was mentioned in Comment 4. ok, comments are helping to get to a better understanding. Looks like the problem is connected to a specific configuration that toshiba is shipping, or set of drivers that users might update too. the crash is also 100% on windows 7 = Windows NT6.1.7600 and this support article thread seems to have a solution http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/489941 Tried to download on new toshiba. didnt work. wtf cleaned up any traces of previouse installs that I could find. so the .dll name is making more sense now. T FP U PWDBankEx.dll Toshiba FingerPrint Utility something something.... http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Technology/Toshiba-Fingerprint-Utility-Error/m-p/54139;jsessionid=2ECFFDBA69C2F05C970F423AA515A2EF the article is a bit hard to follow but it sounds like there might be several problem. its not clear if the solution recommende in the forum directly fixes firefox incompatibility problem and if an update to the plugin is still needed.
if the toshiba finger print utility is the sole source of this crash we must have had a lot of toshiba users joining the 3.6b4. in relative terms this crash is showing up 5x higher than firefox 3.5.5 or 3.0.15 on 11/30 checking --- 20091130-crashdata.csv KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727 release total-crashes KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727 crashes pct. all 233706 247 0.00105688 3.0.15 50334 0 3.5.5 122547 135 0.00110162 3.6b4 16576 93 0.00561052 3.6b3 2703 8 0.00295967 3.6b2 1193 0 3.6b1 2776 7 0.00252161
Now that we know what this is I sugggest that we block KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727|0xc06d007e / 0x00000000 (65 crashes) 100% (65/65) vs. 0% (66/14365) TFPUPWDBankEx.dll 69% (45/65) vs. 0% (45/14365) 1.0.2.12 31% (20/65) vs. 0% (21/14365) 1.0.2.8 and if we can more precisely block only on windows 7, that would be a plus. a support article for 3.5.x users would also be a good idea. content for that article is in comment 14 and 15
Keywords: user-doc-needed
there is also a toll free number for toshiba in the support forum post in comment 15 if we wanted to give toshiba a heads up on the block. 800-457-7777.
Re: Toshiba Fingerprint Utility Error Options 09-20-2009 12:21 PM comment in http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Technology/Toshiba-Fingerprint-Utility-Error/m-p/54139;jsessionid=2ECFFDBA69C2F05C970F423AA515A2EF suggests a Tool for uninstalling TAM(authentec fingerprint software Truesuite Access Manager) be run this before installing the Windows 7 Toshiba Fingerprint Utility. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/download.jsp?soid=2461585 but then if you run that utility it seems to create fingerprint data corruption. that also has set of steps to fix.
I just got this crash http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1a57c70d-150d-4d2d-9442-c3fcc2091231 while clicking on the link on the barenesandnoble.com front page to check my order status (top right of page). The signature is at KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727 but the next frame is _CxxThrowException not TFPUPWDBankEx.dll. I do not have a toshbia laptop but am on Windows 7 64-bit. I can't reproduce the crash though.
Kurt: Where is this dll located on your system and what are the file properties (in many cases you can see from which compoany this dll is)
(In reply to comment #21) > Kurt: > Where is this dll located on your system and what are the file properties (in > many cases you can see from which compoany this dll is) I have four of them (all from Microsoft): C:\Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft-windows-kernelbase_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_8d4c144d02a5d93c C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-kernelbase_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_82f769face451741 C:\Windows\SysWOW64 C:\Windows\System32

kurt: your crash is "firefox ran out of memory". it's a generic crash and you need to either ignore it (we already know we don't handle c++ oom exceptions) or use your own bug. The signature is roughly: _CxxThrowException / operator new / RegExpNativeCompiler::compile I'm not entirely sure what Kernelbase @0xb727 is, but it is entirely uninteresting and someone needs a file a series of bugs to get the crash analysis to discard it: 1. we need symbols for kernelbase 2. whatever that function is needs to be added to some 'ignore' list If someone wants to figure out what that address is, https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_WinDbg Kurt, feel free to use windbg, just attach to firefox, setup symbols, open the disassembly window, and enter: kernelbase!0xb600 into the text field, scroll down to kernelbase!0xb727 and then back until you see which function you're in....

bug 539373 has links to http://www.upek.com/ which seem to be the underlying technology providers for these fingerprint reading devices.
re: comment #25, there's also a support topic on the upek site that discusses compatibility, system requirements, and links to an updated xpi at http://www.upek.com/support/customersupport/techsupport/Topic.asp?ID_Topic=70
kev: that's only compatible with 3.5, our crashes are with 3.6, presumably because their old maxversion field is bogus. the install.rdf's for the two xpis they have there both list maxversion 3.5.* which seems correct. I think we should send a blocklist to 3.6 but not 3.5. When they make a version that's compatible w/ 3.6 we can allow it based on a different version number on their side, or they can use a different contract id.
Well, you better hurry. This crash is in 4th place on the 3.6 crash list.

yeah, we need to tell crash-stats to ignore that frame, it's a generic frame.

Same problem with brand new Toshiba R700. Solution: Uninstall Toshiba Fingerprint utility. Then Frefox 3.6.10 works fine.
Kohei / Kev, did we ever find contacts at Toshiba?
I have some in DE and the US. Will ping and see if we can get anywhere. We may want to push this to a BL candidate.
Stefan and Kev, as long as I know, this problem is fixed by the latest driver. Could you point me about:crashes and your version of TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility?
latest signature stats of modules with versions shows KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727|0xc06d007e / 0x00000000 (195 crashes) 90% (176/195) vs. 0% (203/219747) TFPUPWDBankEx.dll 14% (27/195) vs. 0% (37/219747) 1.0.2.12 9% (18/195) vs. 0% (20/219747) 1.0.2.15 21% (41/195) vs. 0% (45/219747) 1.0.2.16 35% (68/195) vs. 0% (68/219747) 1.0.2.21 0% (0/195) vs. 0% (1/219747) 1.0.2.7 11% (22/195) vs. 0% (32/219747) 1.0.2.8
Thanks, chris. But I look crash data by this signature, data was not related to TFPUPWDBankEx.dll. At least, original crash was fixed. (I and Toshiba Euro/JPN verified using their driver version 1.0.2.29). Users should update the driver from http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp. They have released version 1.0.2.32.
(In reply to comment #38) > Thanks, chris. But I look crash data by this signature, data was not related > to TFPUPWDBankEx.dll. > yes, some of the problems under the signature KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727 are not related to TFPUPWDBankEx.dll. problems with google maps and IECoralTab appear to be among the mix of problems under KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727 the stats above indicate 10% or more do not have TFPUPWDBankEx.dll loaded, but 90% of users crashing on this signature do have that .dll loaded. maybe we need to open a new bug for crashes like http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/e4650634-ae68-4a7b-a705-45c402101012 the comment there translated from french indicates The application TFPU (Firefox plugin) TOSHIBA prevents booting after installation of Firefox on Windows 64 bits. http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/OrdinateursPortables/Transportable/unique-toshiba-qosmio-sujet_54943_9.htm # t1153081 another example is http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c325d52e-8ebd-4bd6-8ee0-2c62f2101013 > At least, original crash was fixed. (I and Toshiba Euro/JPN verified using > their driver version 1.0.2.29). Users should update the driver from > http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp. They have > released version 1.0.2.32. blocking old versions with a link to the lastest might be a way to encourage these upgrades. we also an feature that allows e-mailing users as an auto-response to given crash signatures. That will be a little harder on this signature with other problems mixed in. If we can look at more of the data and see that 90% of the KERNELBASE.dll@0xb727 problems are caused by old versions of TFPUPWDBankEx.dll maybe we could just go ahead with the e-mails with a disclaimer that it only applies if you run Firefox on a Toshiba PC.

This is fixed by version 1.0.2.29.
A had the problem with a brand new Toshiba Toshiba Portégé R700-172 delivered at Oct 12 2010. I dont see that tere is anything fixed. See my Bugreports bp-6c2a5f2e-1513-4498-88eb-8428e2101013 bp-d7eaf79a-d303-43d9-bd85-a2d5b2101013

It seems to be old.
Also, this bug isn't support forum. If you want to report about this, please update TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility to the latest version at first!
Whiteboard: [crashkill][crashkill-blocklist] → [crashkill][crashkill-blocklist][fixed in 1.0.2.29]
While it's not a support forum, it is a good place to provide additional data about which versions are crashing Firefox, so we can evaluate and take action. This plugin has consistently caused Firefox to crash since I've been here, and while the latest version may address issues, it's not exactly easy for end-users to diagnose and rectify. Updating is all fine and good, but the only way we really address it is to take action with versions that negatively impact our product, because I would be willing to bet most users just assume Firefox doesn't work, and goes back to something that does. Based on the comments here, I'll file a blocklist bug for versions less than 1.0.2.29. Having a direct relationship with the development team will also help, because this certainly isn't the first time we've had issues like this, and it'd be great if we could figure out how we ensure that plugins/extensions get updated simply and safely, as well as letting users know when there are potential issues. I think that its not acceptable to require installing a new driver on a brand new machine. If possible, firefox should work around this problem. I am a developer myselfe, ans id say its much easier for (many) users of toshiba laptobs tu just install the latest version of firefox (wich is very easy), rather than to search for a new driver etc (wich besides other problmes is not intuitive at all - i had to take a number of steps to find th ereason of this problem).
kev, lets add the block list bug as dependent on this one so we can track to see how much that helps?
Just wanted to note that my crash (2bb2c784-f4ca-4b67-bcff-2153e2101023), which was linked to this bug, has nothing to do with the Toshiba fingerprint driver. I am not using a Toshiba computer, nor do I have any Toshiba components installed.
re comment 47: crash-stats doesn't claim "this is your bug" it just says "i know of a bug which has a similar signature". As it happens, kernelbase is a **** signature, and we haven't managed to tell crash-stats to ignore it. I've filed bug 606758 for your crash. For anyone else hitting kernelbase and finding this bug and not having a toshiba fingerprint driver, just file your own bug, thanks.
