User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.14) Gecko/2009082707 Firefox/3.0.14 Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) I have a very large msgFilterRules.dat in "Local Folders" (currently 445 filters, 2792 lines of text). I assume this is the reason Thunderbird no longer allows me to view or edit any of the filters in the "Filter Rules" dialog. I can open the dialog and select "Local Folders", but that's as far as I get, because nothing appears in the main window of the dialog box, no matter how long I wait. The folders do still operate, but I have to exit Thunderbird and edit msgFilterRules.dat as a text file if I want to add, change, or delete any of them. I can still edit my newsgroup filters because those are in separate, smaller files. Reproducible: Always

> The folders do still operate, but I have to exit Thunderbird and edit > msgFilterRules.dat as a text file if I want to add, change, or delete any of them. (Q1) Large msgFilterRules.dat(445 filter rules) itself is cause of your problem? Can you reproduce your problem with newly created profile? 1. thnderbird.exe -P then create new profile, define a dummy POP3 account(no Global Inbox use) 2. Terminate Tb 3. Copy the large msgFilterRules.dat to mail directory for the dummy account. 4. Restart Tb, edit message filter rule, and save if possible. (Q2) Problem like Bug 362539, Bug 390992, Bug 403907? Or problem like Bug 450424?

(Q1) No. In the new profile, the filters can be edited. I don't understand it. If you can suggest any other tests I'll be glad to try them. (Q2) I don't think any of those four are related. There aren't any rules disappearing, it's just that the window for editing the list of rules (literally) comes up empty (and stays that way when I select "Local Folders" from the drop-down). The rules in msgFilterRules.dat still work as filters, including ones I've inserted with a text editor. I haven't run across any tmprules-nnn files; I'm not even sure where they would go on a Windows system (there isn't any "temp" or "tmp" folder under "Application Data"). And I'm not trying to move or rename any files or folders.
(In reply to comment #2) > (Q2) I don't think any of those four are related. There aren't any rules > disappearing, it's just that the window for editing the list of rules > (literally) comes up empty My question was: Problem of next due to similar cause of those bugs or not? - Impossible to edit message filter because no rule is displayed, even though manual update of msgFilterRules.dat works (i.e. manually updated msgFilterRules.dat is successfully read). On MS Win, temporary directory is set in %temp%. At command prompt, do next. C: DIR %temp% /S > C:\DIR-LIST.TXT notepad.exe C:\DIR-LIST.TXT Check mail directory of all accounts also for garbage of tmp*.dat.
Either I already answered your question or I can't understand it.
rkent, did you fix such a thing for v3?

Not that I recall. I can imagine that 400+ filters overwhelms the dialog though, as there is a lot of XBL loading that goes on and can be quite slow.
John David, in v2, do you see anything in the error console? can you reproduce this in v3? (rkent I must have been thinking of a different bug)

I was thinking of Bug 444793 - Edit Message Filter window slow, bad performance for multi-criteria filters I find no dupes for this. So if it's reproduced in v3 than it can be confirmed
I've uninstalled TB and reinstalled v3.0.1, and can no longer reproduce the problem.
