After clicking the "Copies and Folders" setting of a Gmail account, the window where you will have to change the settings frozes.

I can still click other setting choices but the area where I should do the settings already froze to the Gmail account's "Copies and Folders".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Tools>>Account Settings (you shoulc already have set-up a Gmail POP3 account and another non-Gmail account
2. Click the Coopies and Folders of the Gmail account
3. The window on the right is now frozen.
Actual Results:
Area where the settings can be done already frozen to "Copies and Folders"

Expected Results:
The said area should change according the the settings you click on the lefthand side.
Do you have the issue in -safe-mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) ?
Yes.

Who select Smart Folders?
Did you use your profile by Tb2 after used by Tb3?
If so, did you select Smart Folders by Tb2?

I'm having difficulty understanding your questions but I'll try my best to answer them.

I don't know who selected the Smart folders, it is a default setting during installation. I've always use the Global folders for everything.

Yes, from TB2 to TB3 (if that is what you mean.)

BTW, I didn't notice that! You solved it for me. :-)

However, regardless if it is in "Smart Folders", it shouldn't freeze up, isn't it? It is supposed to give an error message or something, not freeze the UI!

Anyways, Thanks!

It's not freeze. As "Smart Folders" is hidden account to support "Smart Folders", archives folder you selected can not be viewed. So Tb3 won't save such wrong setting to warn user. Currently, warning message by Tb3 is transparent and message length=0. Thus, user can not see the warning :-)
It's known issue.

If you use profile by Tb2 after the hidden "Smart Folders" account is defined by Tb3, "Smart Folders" is displayed as ordinal account, because Tb2 doesn't have "hidden account" capability. So, if you select "Smart Folders" by Tb2, problem you experienced happens on Tb3.

You simply upgraded from Tb2 to Tb3?
(while you were using Tb2, you never used Tb3. after upgarade to Tb3, you never used Tb2.)
Thanks!
@ludovic

Removing "Smart Folders" and replacing it with Local Folders.

Not really clear or any explicit message why it is acting that way, though. (ie, Smart Folders freezing the screen -- without any message telling me to change it to something else as it is not applicable.)

There should be at least an error message that the folder chosen cannot be used (or alternatively, not putting Smart Folders as a choice in the first place given the same circumstances.)

"It's known issue" means there is already opened bug for problem.
Sorry but I can't recall nug number. Search B.M.O if you want to know already opened bug, please.
Following is DUP of already opened bug.
  - Tb3 doesn't save Copies&Folders if hidden accout's folder is poined.
(Tb2 doesn't care for pointer to hidden account.)
  - No warning/error message for reason why Tb3 doesn't save.
But, AFAIK, next is not DUP.
  - Copies&Folders/archives is set to "Smart Folders"

Did you define Global Inbox? Are you using Global Inbox?
If yes, "Global Inbox(Local Folders)"? Or "Inbox for fifferent account"?
Did you repeat delete/define of accounts?
If yes, did you delete account specified by "Inbox for fifferent account"?
It looks problem after bug 534382.
  1. All Copies&Folders setting except archive_folder was set to folder of
Local Folders(server1, server1's hostname/userName is set in folder path).
  2. mail.identity.idN.archive_folder was not written yet.
  3. Upgrade to Tb3, and bug 534382 happens.
  4. At Copies&Folders, "Smart Folders" is displayed.

Setting dependency to bug 534382 for ease of tracking/search.
