Build Identifier: 3.0

I have consistent crashes on shutdown with tb 3.0.

thunderbird.exe - application error
the instruction at "0x00487e21" referenced memory at "0x00000024". the memory
could not be "read". click on OK to terminate the program

crash reporter doesn't show up, I think because the program is closing but I don't know.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start thunderbird
2.close thunderbird

Actual Results:
thunderbird.exe - application error
the instruction at "0x00487e21" referenced memory at "0x00000024". the memory
could not be "read". click on OK to terminate the program

Expected Results:
nothing interesting should happen, should just close.
do you see this started in safe mode?
kaspersky again?

Version: unspecified → 3.0
I just switched from kaspersky IS 2009 to mcafee total protection 2010. it doesn't crash anymore. but I will let you know if it does act up again.
this issue does seem to be with kaspersky. I had even removed the kaspersky extension (2 files) from tbird manually.

I just looked, and I also seem to be running 3.0.1, which is the kaspersky fixed version. I don't know when it updated.
btw, I was running 3.0 when I had the problem.
it crashed again. same error message. I have mcafee instead of kaspersky now.
this time it crashed on the following situation:
0.tb not running
1.click mailto: link in browser
2.fill out email
3. send email

after the email closes, crash. I don't know if it always does this.
it didn't crash the 2nd time I clicked a mailto: link and sent an email. so I would have to say the problem is now intermittent. with kaspersky and 3.0 it was full on consistent.
I had to attach to the process to catch this one. but strangely enough, this access violation is c0000005, not c0000013. so there is something farther on maybe? I don't know.

very hard to reproduce now. usually does it when I click on a link to send a mailto: email. that's something I can't do in safe mode. that's when it sometimes crashes.
normally when I pull up tb by itself outside safe mode, everything runs normally.
it works the same in either. in other words, no, it pretty much doesn't crash, at least I don't remember it doing so. if it does, I will get back to you.

so... did you fix the access violation?
I don't see anything useful in that stack trace, which makes me suspect it doesn't have the right symbols.
you need to do:
.sympath SRV*c:\symbols*http://symbols.mozilla.org/thunderbird
.symfix+ c:\symbols
.reload /f

sorry...

I don't recall that safe mode prevents mailto: from working.

so lets call this incomplete for now.

Resolution: --- → INCOMPLETE
think. you can't get to safe mode by
1. not having tb running
2. clicking on mailto
Resolution: INCOMPLETE → FIXED
Jim, this is either WORKSFORME (you don't see the problem anymore and we don't know what fixed it), INVALID (you determined that the crash was caused by something other than thunderbird) or INCOMPLETE (indeterminate). It can't be closed fixed, unless we cite what patch or bug fixed it.
Resolution: FIXED → WORKSFORME
still crashes in 3.0.3 clicking on a mailto and clicking send.

mailto certainly works in safe mode. I've tested it with v3.1b1

0. start thunderbird in safe mode
1.click mailto: link in browser
2.fill out email
3. send email

If you never crash, the problem is an add-on.
The crash might also be caused by McAfee. Turn off its scanning of outgoing mail.
