I have the latest Silverlight 4 beta installed, verified by going to about:plugins. Any page that I visit on http://silverlight.net/ has a click to install box on it, can't see any Silverlight content whatsoever. I am also not seeing anything in the Error Console.

Brian, I don't have the beta installed, but just want to make sure MS claims its compatible (with a non Firefox branded Browser). I see your screenshot, but if I recall correctly, you said somewhere you installed it manually.

Can you confirm that a user can install Silverlight 4 beta on Minefield without doing so manual, I assume MS hasn't branded it compatible above 3.5 yet, and if so, does it run with ipc being disabled?
When I installed Silverlight 4, it did not put the np*.dll files in the c:\program files (x86)\firefox\plugins\ directory, so I copied them over myself. It doesn't work with OOPP turned off either.

However, when I visit http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx, it shows me this:

installed version Silverlight 4 (4.0.41108.0)
requested version Silverlight 3 (3.0.50106.0)

But if I go to a site like http://www.iis.net/media/experiencesmoothstreaming, it wants me to "Click to Install".

Anyways, at http://silverlight.net/getstarted/silverlight-4-beta/ it says this:

This is a developer beta release only! This release of Silverlight 4 Beta is a developer release. What this means is that there is no “go-live” licensing available and the end-user runtime of Silverlight 4 is not available. The tools below are intended for software developers only.

So, with that in mind, if someone wants to mark this as INVALID, feel free.
Great, thanks for checking and the detailed info. The reason I brought this to light is because I do remember trying to do the same previously with version 3 beta. I had the same experience, so its hard to say if its because Silverlight needs a proper compatible UA string or its something else in their code/install or registry checks/settings.
Weird. I was about to report that silverlight 4 was working for me a few days ago and then stopped on all the sites it was working on. Decided to disable IPC, refresh page (silverlight worked), renabled IPC and silverlight once again worked.

Brian and dale: give that a try.
I followed Comment 6's steps (without restarting Firefox after disabling/enabling IPC, right?), and I was able to stream music from Zune.net This got me excited, because I thought my problems from Bug 543773 had been resolved.

However, while the music was playing, I ended all mozilla-runtime.exe processes, and the music continued to play. So I'm assuming it's not running out of process.

The same thing happens on the front page of Silverlight.net.

Steps to reproduce: (You have to have Silverlight 3's plugin already installed)
1. Start the latest nightly of Firefox with IPC enabled.
2. Go to www.silverlight.net
3. Note the "Install Microsoft Silverlight" message.
4. Disable IPC from about:config.
5. Go back to silverlight.net and refresh the page.
6. Note that it loaded the plugin. (The showcase starts cycling through examples)
7. Reenable IPC from about:config.
8. Go back to silverlight.net and refresh the page.
9. The plugin loads correctly.
10. Kill mozilla-runtime.exe.
11. See that the plugin is still running on the page.
Spun off bug 544361 for the toggling IPC allowing silverlight to work

I was noticing that toggling the pref didn't always affect plugins until I actually restarted.
