When you copy a folder with all it's subfolders, that activity is not shown in the activity manager. From time to time, individual subfolders are shown there, but not the overall activity as triggered by the user. There is also no completion notification of any kind.

To see how it can be done better, please take a look at the same thing in KDE4.3: Copying a folder. There, this is _one_ activity, with different counts (files, %, time to go).
