Build Identifier:
When I Start Thunderbird v3.0.1 (clean install, new profile & British English dictionary installed), set the mail toolbar preference via migration assistant to "use original toolbar (from v2.0.0.23)". Close this tab/Prog
When you relaunch prog the mail toolbar has reverted back to "use new toolbar in TB3", however checking the migration assistant page it shows use original.
Have tried safe mode / version 3.0.2 / another new profile =no change
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Thunderbird with a new profile (no account details set-up)
2. Go to migration assistant
3. Set toolbar preferences to use original (from 2.0.0.23)
4. Close / re-launch prog
Actual Results:
Toolbar preferences reverts to new toolbar TB3
Expected Results:
Preferences held upon restart
I had the same problem, and did some poking around to figure out what's going on. If you click "use new toolbar", then click "use original toolbar", you'll see that everything looks correct again. But of course, on restart, it is wrong again.
First off, it isn't actually switching back to "Use new toolbar" when you restart; instead, it is losing the "View->Toolbars->Customize..., Show:" setting. The default is apparently "Icons beside Text", whereas the original toolbar had "Icons and Text" (i.e. text underneath icons). I originally thought it was switching back to the new toolbar also, because the original toolbar looks much like the new toolbar when you move the text next to the icon.
The workaround is to go to "View->Toolbars->Customize..." and change "Show:" to "Icons and Text". After this, the toolbar setting will "keep" when you restart.
The fix would be for "use original toolbar" button to not just update to "Icons and Text" setting, but to actually SAVE it for the next restart.

I can confirm that this behaviour exists on 3.0.4 on the mac as well.
View > Toolbars > Customize is already set to "Icons and Text", but I set it to something else and back.
When I restart after changing this setting, it remembers th "icons and text" toolbar setting, but the icons are slightly different (smaller) than when I use the "Use original toolbar" button in the migration assistant.

Do you still see this problem in version 5, or 6?

I Regret to say the original toolbar preference does not hold when following the procedure I reported back in 2010 in Thunderbird 5, using a clean profile.

Mass-close of migration assistant bugs. The migration assistant has been removed in Thunderbird 15 (bug 735524) as it was no longer necessary.
Thunderbird 10 esr is the only currently supported version that still has the migration assistant, but that will be unsupported in about 7-8 weeks, and any issues with the migration assistant won't be fixed for TB 10 esr anyway.
