User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100227 Thunderbird/3.0.3

The recent folders window/pane is not properly updated in 3.0. This makes the feature useless.

It was updated by every "get mail" in 2.0.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Starting with "All Folders", click the left arrow until "Recent Folders" appears.
2. Get mail.
3. Compare with "All Folders"

Actual Results:
4. Many/most highlighted folders in "All Folders" don't appear in "Recent Folders".

Expected Results:
Every folder that is highlighted (blue) SHOULD appear in recent folders.

Also, non-existent folders such as "Outbox - Local Folder" appear. Such folders should not be displayed.

I have ~100 message filters to put new messages into appropriate folders. There are ~2000 folders after years of archiving. It is very hard to find new incoming messages without the properly updated Recent Folders that was present in previous versions.

For those of us that get ~500 messages per day on 7 accounts, this is really annoying!
Related to bug 501076?
I don't use this so I'm not likely to reproduce. (I'm not even saying it's a legit bug) And so I only offer observations:

this may correlate to regression Bug 534523 - Move to / Copy to Recent context submenu list doesn't sort folder names alphabetically - however, it too doesn't yet have a regression range.

(why I'm ccing rkent) OTOH, rather than being specific to "recent folders" pane mode, the cause might be more related to how "new messages" are (not) being detected/communicated per recent bugs about folders aren't always showing they have new messages. Relevant bugs https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?type1-0-0=anywordssubstr&short_desc=new%20folder&field0-0-0=short_desc&bug_severity=major&bug_severity=normal&bug_severity=minor&resolution=---&classification=Client%20Software&classification=Components&chfieldto=Now&chfield=[Bug%20creation]&query_format=advanced&chfieldfrom=2009-01-01&value1-0-0=get%20message&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&type0-0-0=nowords&value0-0-0=rss&field1-0-0=short_desc&product=MailNews%20Core&product=Thunderbird

Joe, Eric, is this issue also seen in mozillazine forums?

xref the other "recent" bugs - some of which may be v3 regressions and haven't yet been marked so: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?type1-0-0=anywordssubstr&emailcc1=1&emailreporter1=1&short_desc=recent%20folder&field0-0-0=short_desc&bug_severity=major&bug_severity=normal&bug_severity=minor&bug_severity=enhancement&resolution=---&classification=Client%20Software&classification=Components&emailtype1=substring&query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&email1=vseerror%40lehigh.edu&type0-0-0=nowords&value0-0-0=count%20counts&field1-0-0=short_desc&product=MailNews%20Core&product=Thunderbird

It would be great to get some traction on this bug (and class of bugs) but it requires some elbow grease ...

regression range done by someone who sees the bug (william?) would be very helpful. finding the regression range might pinpoint the change that caused the problem, and be quicker digging with other methods to find the cause.
http://www.rumblingedge.com/2009/02/24/howto-find-regression-windows-through-manual-binary-search/

The key point there is "take intervals that divide themselves by half everytime – from 1 year, to 6 months, and now I’m going down to 3 months…)"

a) install each test build in a separate directory so that you can retest if
needed
b) so that you can keep v3 running, start your test thunderbird as
thunderbird.exe -P -no-remote ... -P so you can choose a test profile, and
-no-remote so that it doesn't complain that you have thunderbird v3 already
running

for hints on how to start and use multiple builds see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Run_multiple_copies_of_Thunderbird_at_the_same_time#Making_Thunderbird_behave_differently and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Command_line_arguments

OK I can't help with finding the regression but I it works for me in 3.1 Lanikai nightly build from March 24, 2010

i.e.
1. select "Recent Folders"
2. Get Mail
3. Folders get updated, i.e. (I use gmail), inbox and all mail as well as filtered folders like the one i have setup for Facebook bacon have the same unread counts in "All folders" and "Recent Folders"
let's assume bug 534523 is closely related (entirely reasonable). almost certainly is the same regression

Yes, as of today, POP3 message filters added mail to 26 folders, and only 4
showed up in Recent Folders. However, I'd moved mail into various folders by
hand yesterday (from Inbox), and 11 of those show up....

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101207 Thunderbird/3.1.7
And for the record, unlike bug 501076 and bug 534523, I'm talking about the
"Recent Folders" pane at the left side (selected by the little arrows from
"All Folders"), not the "Recent" list in the Move/Copy. The latter seems
to be an entirely different list -- much shorter, and much older access by
date, with none of the blue highlighted folders in it!
Here is a picture showing both forms of Recent folders. Note that they
don't match each other, neither is sorted in the same order, and they
don't have most of the 26 recently downloaded folders.

now that bug 534523 is fixed (2010-12-23 for trunk), starting version v5, is this bug also fixed for you?
(in current versions)

after bug 534523, the folder pane's recent folders list should still show folders whose only recent activity is via filters. And, afaict it shows all folders that got messages via filters AND manual message moves/copies. And it is sorted.

Is there anything else that needs to be checked?
Depends on: 534523, 370324
no one responded to disagree, so => WFM.
