I think it would be neat if the middle mouse button opened links in a new window by default on Windows as well as on Mac and Linux. It might be necessary to implement bug 55704 first (add gui for this pref and the middlemouse.paste pref). I'm not planning to file another rfe for making middlemouse.paste default to true on Windows, but if anyone else thinks that's a good idea please file an rfe and post the bug number here :)

see also bug 12056, make ctrl-click or shift-click open in new window.
i doubt middlemouse should paste on windows -- it's not expected behavior, for better or for worse :) -- but it *definitely* should open a new window. this is a very common expected behavior -- ns4.x browsers and msie (where the middle mouse isn't a wheel) implement this, so people would be confused by the disparity here. it would certainly be a "good thing" to fix 55704, but i would consider this necessary (and very easy to fix) for rtm.
I would love it too, frankly. But not at this late date. "rtm-".

there are certainly a bunch of Mac mice [made by Kensington and Logitech, to name a couple of manufacturers] which have more than one button. pink, saari et al., d'you think we should include Mac mice here?

fooey. middlemouse.openNewWindow is certainly set to true in all.js [looking at 2001.02.09.09 comm bits on winNT], but for some reason it isn't working with the 3-button mouse i've hooked up to my office box. [works fine on linux, and ctrl+click does open a new window on winNT.] reopening. unless something else is going on. [fwiw, jag also saw this when he was using win32 today.]

I think the regression is being tracked by bug 63950. Re-marking this bug as fixed.

if someone w/3-button mouse hooked to a win32 box can get to this before me, that'd be great.
