D2D rendering randomly breaks after visiting a few pages. It happens randomly so I'm not sure what info to provide.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Browse the web
Actual Results:
Randomly broken webpage rendering.

Expected Results:
Rednder the page correctly.

Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Nvidia drivers: 197.25
Blocks: d2d
Added screenshot showing bug.
Hrm, I think I've seen something like this reported before. I wonder what's causing it, can't reproduce it myself. Are there any sites which trigger it more easily?
Unfortunately I haven't found any ways to easily trigger this.
I suspect this to dupe 553269. can you confirm you're also seeing things like the screenshot in that bug?
Nope, it always looks like the screenshot I attached. All page elements are rendered and I can even scroll.
I think this bug is pretty much same as 550684
I think it's default theme problem. After I tried Strata40 (you have to make it work with a5pre) I don't get that breaking or mess whatever you call it. Same thing I tried at my friend, and same solution found using Strata40 or another theme. So bb10 try using another theme (I suggest Strata40) so you can see if problem is gone.
I´m too
Sometimes in a webs with flash and D2D enabled ,FF 3.7.5a freeze and crash
I can confirm this, my solution is to use forceware 196.34 anything higher and i get that random rendering mess randomly
Confirmed that works without any problems on 196.34.
Problems are present on 197.13 and 197.45.
Hrm, I've tried updating my NVidia box to the latest drivers, but still not seeing this. Then again, it's a mobile NVidia card so that might make a difference.

I can also confirm this.

As with others, there seems to be no discernible pattern to the problem.
And either resizing the window, or sometimes swapping to another tab and back fixes.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.3a5pre) Gecko/20100419 Minefield/3.7a5pre ID:20100419035943

Win7 x64
Nvidia 8600GT
I'm using

Win7 x64
Nvidia 8800GT
With latest build (Gecko/20100502) problems confirmed using Nvidia 9800GT on Windows 7.

If I recall correctly Strata40 will disable Direct2D.
Well yes. Actually it makes bugs and crashes. Later today I'm gonna try 197.45 drivers too se I if I can get problems again.
It appears that 196.34 drivers are only one that don't cause problems with D2D.
I tried 197.45 and 197.57 beta and I'm getting problems.

Is anyone with a DX10 card seeing this?

Yes
Win 7 x64
nVidia 8600gt DX10 compliant.

Interesting, my GT230M isn't showing this issue with any driver version. We should contact our friends at NVidia.
Musawir, any chance you've got an idea what's going on?
I personally haven't seen this. Looks like a blit going bad or possibly not being triggered at all. If you guys can specify the repro steps I can file a bug report for our QA to try it out.
I'm pretty sure this is bug 558708. If we can get STR there Musawir might be able to help us out!

I filed a bug with our QA to investigate this with the limited repro steps that I gathered from bug 558708. They sent me back a couple of screenshots, one with the FF+D2D and the other with IE7. The images are different, but I don't think it is a repro of the bug that is being reported here. I'm attaching the screenshots.
In first screenshot user name was misspelled. c is missing from iceold.
That's why there is a notification on top that user is not found in database.
That's why you don't see the profile.
ah! good catch ;) I'll ask them to correct that.
would anyone mind grabbing the corruption screenshots from the links specified in the other bug and attaching them here? I am unable to get to imageshack URLs, but I can download the attachment from here. It would be helpful to send the screenshot to QA so that they know what they're looking for.

thanks
Just as a addition, i can create this error simply by horizontally re-sizing
ANY web page a few times.
Even a stylish installed image for about:blank (although stylish in now broke
in nightly trunk) can be made to produce this error after a bit of random
horizontal resizing.
No browsing is needed, just re-sizing.
Installed 197.45 drivers again and still not getting problems. Weird.
But, I'll see if problems appear later.
Rob I couldn't reproduce it that way.
Only way I could reproduce it to install any driver but 196.34 which doesn't create problems.
Next step to get the problem is just to surf to any site.
Here is what problem look like: http://i40.tinypic.com/2pr65mu.jpg
Not sure if its helpful info, but here's DXdiag, and a GpuZ report.
http://localhostr.com/files/636bb0/DXDiag.PNG
http://localhostr.com/files/2186f3/gpuz.PNG
Just to note that I'm not having those "breaking" anymore. Using 197.45 drivers and latest trunk build. (20100518)
The only weird this is this: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4223/capturerit.jpg
That happens when notification for finished downloading pops up.
I'm seeing similar breakage in other D2D using applications, so I think this is a Nvidia driver bug.
This is still an issue for me, with the nightly trunk
http://localhostr.com/files/801821/Corrupt%20render.PNG

Also, can confirm i have the same corrupt update popup as Oskar.

I'd be interested to know what other apps are suffering this as bb10_10 stated?, so i can test for myself.
This shows breakage similar to what is happening on minefield with D2D enabled:

Normal look: http://bb10x.org/temp/d2dnormal.png
Broken look: http://bb10x.org/temp/d2dbroken.png

This is with foobar2000 and the Waveform Seekbar component.

Links to the software:
http://www.foobar2000.org/download
http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_wave_seekbar
Please specify the exact steps to reproduce the firefox bug(s), we should focus on those issues rather than generic D2D bugs here (they may or may not be related). Please include the HW that you've been using along with the driver version. Also, please note that I cannot see any of these external images that are linked here, specially the ones on image hosting sites such as imageshack. It might be a better idea to attach them to this bug report.

Yep, same results

Looks like this one is down to nVidia then.
Considering this issue only appeared after 196.34 its something they have changed.
got it, i'm able to see the image. Does this happen every time? i.e., is the that "finished downloading" popup always corrupted whenever you download anything from anywhere?
Musawir, there are no specific steps to produce this bug. Just to try using anything newer than 196.34 drivers. Sometimes it takes 1 min to reproduce bug, but sometimes it takes about 30 minutes. I have Nvidia GeForce 8400GS (G98) and using 197.45 drivers.
Anyone who is having breaking should try removing current drivers and installing 197.45 drivers. Also disabling and enabling D2D in trunk builds.

@finished downloading popup: yes, it happens every time anywhere. Just downloaded Lorentz and it happens.
thanks for that info, we will try to repro this locally and investigate.

:( Problems are back.
I tried to see what will happen if I disable Adblock Plus, and I got answer: problems were back.
Now even if I enabled it back, problems are still here.
I used latest development build of ABP as it's noted to fix problems with D2D.

Since these problems are pretty intermittent, you might've just been 'lucky' on your first run with the new drivers.
The latest driver (257.15 beta) seems to have fixed this problem.
Attached image Appearance bug
It seems that problem is fixed with 257.15 as bb10 noted.

But I got those two bugs when pointing mouse to anything so it can display info, or when finished downloading pop-ups. I'm not sure that these two are related to bugs that Myzar was speaking in 554874.
