Somehow. I'm not entirely sure how.
Nominating this as a blocker, because it goes horribly wrong if you close the 3pane. (Which is, admittedly, a rare occurrence.)

Can you elaborate on exactly what the failure mode is? I'm particularly interested in what happens if one quits and restarts.
The toolbar switcher reports the following error at the console:

###!!! ASSERTION: XPConnect is being called on a scope without a 'Components' property!: 'Error', file /Users/bwinton/Programming/thunderbird/reviews-central/mozilla/js/src/xpconnect/src/xpcwrappednativescope.cpp, line 784
JavaScript strict warning: chrome://messenger/content/featureConfigurators/toolbar.js, line 91: assignment to undeclared variable labelalign

And you can't use Command-1 to re-open the 3pane for some reason.
So if I'm understanding correctly, the immediate failure as perceived by the user is likely to be "some jibberish in the console" for those few users who have the console open, and then, after the migration assistant completes, Thunderbird doesn't really work, so the user is likely to quit and restart. After the restart, things should then work fine?
They should, yes.
Given that this is likely to be rare, this just doesn't sound that awful to me. If this were the last bug standing, I can't imagine blocking on it. If testing suddenly makes it clear that things in fact don't work after restart because the profile is corrupt or something, that would be a very different story, and warrant renomination. Blocking- based on what we know now.

Blake, wanna close this now that mig asst won't be in the next release? (and hopefully the underlying issues will have been fixed anyway in the next release)

other MA bugs - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced;short_desc_type=allwordssubstr;resolution=---;type0-0-0=nowords;value0-0-0=count%20counts;product=MailNews%20Core;product=Thunderbird;short_desc=migration%20assistant
Well, it is still a bug, but I'm not working on it, so I'm going to assign it to nobody.

Thanks,
Blake.

Mass-close of migration assistant bugs. The migration assistant has been removed in Thunderbird 15 (bug 735524) as it was no longer necessary.

Thunderbird 10 esr is the only currently supported version that still has the migration assistant, but that will be unsupported in about 7-8 weeks, and any issues with the migration assistant won't be fixed for TB 10 esr anyway.
