upon first opening tabview in a window, all tabs are stacked on top of each other in the bottom right-hand corner, and not in a group. this means that to return the window to it's state before opening tabview, each tab must be individually dragged into a group, and the group opened. regaining the previous tab order requires yet more manual reconstruction. the default state should be all open tabs in a group together, in the same order as pre-tabview.
Maybe this is what I was really seeing in bug 586971.
