regression from bug 581212, something goes wrong the initialization of the graphics environment. The quickest way to correct it is to maximize the window (or unmaximize it and then maximize it again), for example by double clicking the titlebar, or looking for the icon in the taskbar. It will come back when you restart though.

For the moment, you can also set layers.accelerate-all to false, that will prevent the problem, but also disable the acceleraton.
It was mentioned before, and there various problems with D3D, but I haven't seen a bus only for this. It seems to be related to the users of Intel GMA (some even had crashes, see bug 590695)

Hi Jo Hermans, thank you for reply! I try the maximize and unmaximize, but nothing change, double click in taskbar too not working!

Only way to fix is when access webpage, the easy way is in Help > Minefield Help or in bookmark in bookmark toolbar (but, all my bookmark in the bookmark toolbar = RSS :( )
i found a palliative solution:

before i used the option "when a minefield start" to "show a blank page" to not carry any website and the black screen not disappeared even load a website!

now i modified the option to "show my home page" and 2 seconds after start the Minefield the black screen disappears!!
I have the same problem with windows XP Pro SP3 X86

Are you sure that this is a dup of bug 595444? Bug 595444 sounds very much like my problem, while this one seems to be a bit different. Having an Intel graphics card they are most likely related.

I also have an Intel graphics card [Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family]
Same issue here, cannot even remove the black screen with the workarounds proposed. Only safe mode works.

INTEL GME965 on laptop with latest Intel drivers available (6.14.10.5218)

Is this bug still valid or is this fixed by fixing bug 593678?
I haven't seen it since. My graphics card is now being ignored for GPU acceleration, as expected.

I've run into this the past two mornings on my work PC. I updated yesterday to 20101004031228, and I still had a blank screen when I came in this morning.

I have connected to my work PC remotely with Remote Desktop both of the past two nights. I wonder if that's related. I'll leave things alone tonight, and won't connect with RDP, and see how it is tomorrow morning.

Yeah, I think that's a separate problem related to RDP issues we might have on Windows XP.

OK, cool. Bug 594407. I'll add some comments over there.
