The activity manager needs to be better intergrated with the status bar. It has too little information, it needs a delayed fadeout setting, and it should identify the account being accessed. This information should flow upwards from the status bar during mail server communications.
Reproducible: Always
Expected Results:
The user should see what account on which server is being accessed and if the mail is outgoing or incoming. It should allow the information to persist for length of time as set by user.
It is assumed that the activity manager should exist for the purpose of giving informational feedback to the user. As such, it should give more information and should persist so the user can understand and assimilate it as needed.

poptart :) is Bug 476696 - Activity Manager: Poptarts. Related is Bug 476487 - interactive status bar. But I'm guessing Kevin's thought doesn't quite fit poptarts and "interactive" is a different ball of wax.
So, two good references are the bugs marked in the dependencies of these two bugs
* Bug 492620 - better, easier logging/diagnostics for Thunderbird
* Bug 257942 - (activitymgr) activity manager tracker
Note, at present, activity manager is not designed/intended to show *all* activity. iirc it was scaled back in its initial implementation to offer the user a simplified view, the best way I can put it is a summary. Whereas, I think Kevin seems to be headed more in the direction of logging.
Kevin, it would be good for you to examine these and comment how your idea fits in. THanks.

Someone just created a circular reference. If this is a duplicate of the other, then the other should not be a duplicate of this.

I don't think so. What you just saw happen is that someone removed dupeme from the whiteboard, and nothing else. a) this bug hasn't changed in 1.5 years. b) bug 524314 isn't a duplicate of this bug.
Go to comment 3. Select the bug this one went to. See that one link back to this one. Maybe the circular link was done a while back.
