Could this be somehow related to (my) bug 595471?
(This report is at hardware acceleration level = 3 (/6), = without DD/D3D.)
Oh, I tested with a Firefox build and it didn't seem to report this error...
I see this on Windows XP too (see also bug 598328)

WorksForMe on my Win2K (H.A. level 3 and 6 /6) now, probably after bug 603204.

Are you still seeing this bug on your WinXP?
Depends on: 603204
No longer depends on: 595471
Depends on: 604118
I'm seeing this error on Instantbird as well. It keeps spamming the error console. This is happening not only at start up but also during running the application.
Since it seems to be graphics related (I found a reference to this string somewhere in some NVidia (?)-related code on MXR) I'll attach the Graphcis section from my about:support page in Instantbird:

  Graphics

Adapter Description: NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro
   Vendor ID: 10de
   Device ID: 0150
   Adapter RAM: Unknown
   Adapter Drivers: nv4_disp
   Driver Version: 7.1.8.9
   Driver Date:
   Direct2D Enabled: false
   DirectWrite Enabled: false
   GPU Accelerated Windows: 0/4

YES, my graphics card IS OLD! ;)
It seems to occur (one each time) at least when opening a new window. There seem to be other ways to trigger it, though.

Maybe we could change this into a pure CoCreateInstance()-issue bug? It doesn't seem to be SeaMonkey related only, so the "SeaMonkey" and "startup" are misleading in a way.
The same informative text appears when tooltips or menus are opened (at the first time?).

(Sorry for the bugspam)
This was fixed recently on trunk. See bug 598328.
Serge,
Is it fixed in SeaMonkey?

I can't say anymore, per comment 3.

Ian, can you check on your WinXP?

***

Benedikt,
this bug is SeaMonkey startup specific.
Please, file separate bugs for the other issues you mentioned.

The problems I saw are gone. I think it was fixed with bug 598328.
