I've been asked this a few times by casual sync owners testing the new jpake, so i thought i'd file a bug. Can we support "Removing a Device?" from an account? The current option is only to add a device, but the perception of workflow for users is also a way to remove it.

Repro:
1) install minefield with jpake
2) add a device and do setup
3) Verify there's no way to "remove" a device.

Expected:
- If we're asking people to add a device, the natural reaction is to remove one also

Actual:
- no remove a device option
From bug 694276: this could be part of bug 694272.

I'm not sure this is the same as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670473 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694276

You can remove a device, what it's not possible is to do it remotely.

To remove a device you need to go to the Options window in the device that you want to remove, access the Sync tab and at the bottom look for "Unlink this device".

That will do the trick. If doing it remotely is required, yes...it's a dup.

Summary: Support Removing a device → Support removing a synced device
Yea, I have an extra device in my Sync account that I forgot to manually unlink before formatting the computer. I'd need a way to remove the device from one of my other devices.
Sean, I believe, in time, any device that doesn't connect to the account will eventually be dropped. There currently is no way to do a remote remove. It won't be a feature added to the current version of Sync. It may be in the works for Sync 2.0. Follow along in in bug 821532

If you were to lose a synced device and wanted to lock it out of your account, you have to do a Sync Password change via Options > Sync > Manage Account > Change Password. Without the new password, the lost device won't be able to sync to your account.
It'll disappear after three weeks of inactivity in Sync 1.1, unless you take other action (e.g., server wipe and repopulate).
This is now possible through https://accounts.firefox.com on the web.
