From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.2.17 i686; en-US; m18) Gecko/20001205 BuildID: 2000120518 When I invoke right-click menu on Flash picture, it's pretty hard to make it disappear. It doesn't disappear on left click on areas outside Flash applet, neither on right click on any place. This is very unlike the behaviour of other menues, that disappear on any click outside menu area. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. go to http://www.macromedia.com/ 2. right-click on flash picture 3. try to remove the menu that appear with left-clicking other part of the window or right-clicking again. Actual Results: menu doesn't disappear Expected Results: menu disappears on any click ouside menu area Flash 4 plugin was downloaded today from Macromedia site.

I am confirming this bug. Does ot happen all the time. Sometimes clicking out of the plugin area makes the popup go away but sometimes it does not work. Build 1215 trunk and 1211 branch.

works okay on MacOS, but I did notice that popups seem to be behaving strangely on linux so it might be a general problem.

Flash crasher or backward incompatibility bug. Nominating for nsbeta1 as high-quality plug-in support is a priority for embedded applications.

I do not think this is mozilla bug, flash plugin itself responsible for what it's doing, besides I was unable to reproduce this with flash 5.0 r47. Shrirang could you try it. Thanks.
The way to make sure this is the case would be to compare the behaviour with 4.x. Shiriang, would you try this please?

My findings: 4.x browser : When I right click inside the plugin area, I get a context menu for the plugin which can be dismissed by left clicking inside/outside the plugin area. Right clicking to dismiss the menu does not work in 4.x either. 6.x(0319 trunk) : When I right click inside the plugin area, I get a context menu for the plugin which can be dismissed ONLY by left clicking inside the plugin area(left click outside the plugin area does not dismiss the context menu) Also, Right clicking to dismiss the menu does not work in 6.x too. So, I guess the bug is still present.

I meant, " Right clicking to dismiss the menu does not work in 4.x "

Let me try to explain what's going on in there, 4.x itself does Xt based event model, the same as flash plugin, and this is the point. In contrast 6.x bases on gdk/gtk events, so 4.x would be correct compare with 6.x if you'll click outside of 4.x navigator window.

Setting target milestone to 0.9.2 (check it in anytime, even before, when the tree is open for). Per PDT triage.

Doesn't look like this is getting fixed before the freeze tonight. Pushing out a milestone. Please correct if I'm mistaken.

I'm removing TM. I'm sure Xlib port of mozilla doesn't show this problem, and I doubt there is easy fix for gtk based mozilla, if there is one. ccing: aruner.

Adding the phrases 'context menu' and 'right click menu' to the summary for querying. Also nominating for 0.9.9 - this is a highly visible bug and highly annoying once encountered. On my machine, the menu stays present even if I switch workspaces to one where Mozilla is nowhere near.
Keywords: mozilla0.9.9
Summary: Flash plugin menu doesn't disappear on click, like other menus → Flash plugin context menu doesn't disappear on click, like other right click menus

some sites strip the context menu to one line, which makes it impossible to dismiss the window in any way (astalavista), since the only way to dismiss the menu is to click in one of the division bars in the menu. also, there are 2 kinds of flash possible, just loading the swf is one, and embedding it in html is the other. see the just recently duped bugs for more info

according to comments in bug 58339 this is fixed in the beta of version 6 (implying that it's a plugin problem)

It is a bug in the Flash 5 player. It is fixed in Flash 6.

Well, the Macromedia home page is quite the opposite to user-friendly, so I might miss it, but I only find version 5 for Linux. pi

Using Mozilla 1.1 for Linux, I've noted that not only does the right click popup menu not disappear unless you change something (like declick play), it will remain there even if you browse to a different page or minimize the window (menu shows up on the desktop). Clicking reload on the same page, however, does make the menu disappear.

flash 6 beta fixes this, also fixes crash on remote display

Removing outdated mozilla0.9.9 keyword. Increasing severity. When it happened it was in front of all windows and hence blocked every action in this area. Flash 6 beta is available at: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/special/beta/ It fixes the problem. Adjusting summary. Should we mark this bug now as WFM? pi
