User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15pre) Gecko/20110204 Firefox/3.6.13 Build Identifier: As of Bug 609127, the status bar element now has a high ordinal. This is an issue because it prevents users from arbitrarily positioning it by placing other toolbar items around it. This is also a problem if the user has the "Firefox 4 UI Fixer". This allows users to move the status bar to different toolbars. On platforms that actually use the gripper (XP I think?), this puts it in a very strange position. The gripper should be moved out of the status bar, and the ordinal should be moved from the status bar to the gripper. I brought up Bug 602971 (in the original bug) as a potential problem. If it is a problem, a potential work around (aside from fixing the actual problem) could be to wrap the addon-bar and the gripper in an hbox. Reproducible: Always

Attachment #510287 -
Attachment description: Gripper misalignment on Windows 7 → Gripper misalignment on Windows XP
The gripper should be forced to always be at the far right, regardless.
I should add that, even before the landing of bug 609127, after installing some extensions (e.g. NoScript, Update Scanner, etc.), the gripper and the extension's status/add-on bar icon are placed to the left of all the other add-on bar icons and are immovable. This should never happen; and since the other add-on bar icons cannot be moved, it is impossible to manually correct the positioning. The extensions represented by the attached Windows XP screenshot are (from right to left): Adblock Plus 1.3.5a2.2773, QuickJava 1.7.2, ScrapBook+ 1.8.17.31, and Update Scanner 3.1.4rc1. To reproduce the issue, install the first three listed add-ons, restart, and then install the last listed add-on.
