generally speaking dialogs of this sort don't handle shortcuts. Like most of the menu items on Tools. (activity manager and error console seem to be exceptions) Also, Thunderbird tends to follow core (Firefox) behavior for things like Help>About. Are you also requesting this for firefox?

Yes, bug 633812. > generally speaking dialogs of this sort don't handle shortcuts. Like most of > the menu items on Tools. (activity manager and error console seem to be > exceptions) As I commented in the Firefox bug, I don't appreciate the difference between dialog boxes and windows -- the About thing looks like a window to me.

I'm not the person to do that. however, I can point out thunderbird does not (yet anyway) have firefox's "new" about layout

Obviously, we cannot expect users to tell apart fancy dialogues (like Help > About) from fancy windows. Moreover, there's ux-consistency problem because Alt+F4 works to close About dialogue, suggesting that it is a window. So I don't see a reason against having Ctrl+W as an alternative shortcut to make the behaviour consistent with other types of TB windows. If there are no duplicates, this should be confirmed.
Blocks: tb-keyboard-tracker
Summary: Thunderbird Help About window should close with keyboard shortcut control-w → TB's Help > About window/dialogue should close with Ctrl+W keyboard shortcut
Actually cmd+W is to close this dialog is implemented for Mac. But Esc should work on all platforms.
