This horrible page has menus on the left-hand side that don't work. Javascript
is involved, but there's nothing on the Javascript console. Unfortunately, the
site writers don't know standards, only proprietary datasheets. Are there really
any errors here, or just dumb code on the site?

It's outdated code at the site. They are using outdated browser-sniffing:

NS4 =(document.layers);
IE4 =(document.all);
ver4 =(NS4 || IE4);   
IE5 =(IE4 && navigator.appVersion.indexOf("5.")!=-1);  
isMac =(navigator.appVersion.indexOf("Mac") != -1);
isPC =(navigator.appVersion.indexOf("Win") != -1); 

isMenu = (NS4 || (IE4 && !isMac) || (IE5 && isMac));



NN4.7 supported layers, but N6 and Mozilla do not. 
Therefore "isMenu" evaluates to false in N6 and Mozilla.
Nothing happens because the site only shows the menus if isMenu=true.
That is why there are no errors in the JavaScript console -

supports gecko browsers.
