two weeks ago, I've changed my hotmail password! and saved it to text file!
when I whould like to check my emails, thunderbird prompted for password, I entered password but it did not login! I deleted account using account manager and entered details again but result was the same! I can logged in using FF 3.6 so password is correct!
another thing is that I'm using ubuntu 10.10 , and I have thunderbird on it, but It doesn't have this problem(I asked me only when i changed my password)!
I've changed my password today and problem has been solved!
my old password: @$jdvshgICHV<SDWNAWJ<}IHV
my new password: pskONHNHNI@$jdv

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.change hotmail password to long password like @$jdvshgICHV<SDWNAWJ<}IHV
2.open thunderbird
3.I won't download email because of incorrect password

Actual Results:
result was the same! password doesn't work!

Expected Results:
Thunderbird should accept new password and download emails instead of saying wrong password!
What is the exact error message that you are getting ?
I just get an error message saying my password is incorrect!
can we get a pop log when it fails. See <https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging> for instructions on how to obtain the log.

NSPR_LOG_MODULES value :

And I've attached log file to bug report!

Thanks but I don't see us talking to any hotmail servers.
Sorry my enail is : khodadadeh@live.com
and because if that server should be :
pop3.live.com
or Something like that!
but server and settings for hotmail and live mail are the same!!!
and I tested this for my @live.com and @hotmail.com email and both failed to get emails!

but you are trying to log in as khodadadeh@hotmail.com

This doesn't sound like a bug.

Password length you requested to MS is 25 characters.
If you type @$jdvshgICHV<SDW (first 16 characters only) as password at Tb's password prompt, is login successful?

FYI.
Following is a web page found by Google search for "Hotmail password too long".

Problem has been solved!
Sorry to bother you!

> So just beware, only first 16 characters are useful, even you set 16+ long.

The password size is a problem on Thunderbird's part.

Case study:

I prefer eM Client but my wife is using Thunderbird 52.3.0 (32-bit) to get her emails from our Postfix / Dovecot mail server.
It worked fine this morning. Her password was 15 characters long.

I suggested that she change her password to 511 characters (the size limit of an Ubuntu user password)
Tonight she received my email correctly but was unable to reply.

I changed her email password back to her old 15 characters in MySQL.
Bingo! It works perfectly again.

Conclusion:
There is a size limit when asked for your password in Thunderbird.
