</p> is optional in HTML5, although I agree that it's weird that it's used elsewhere in the file but not for those two lines.
I'll get the empty list search/replaced out.

It seems that there is one unclosed div ("wrapper"?) in whatsnew/index.html.

While I understand that it's mostly a matter of taste, I personally dislike the sloppiness of HTML5 syntax. We're professionals, can't we use XHTML5 instead?
