Hi Laura and Chrissie,

Just a follow up from our last discussion, we currently do not have a first run for Aurora.

Let's use this design for now until we get all the Aurora stuff branded: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/5.0beta/firstrun/

instead of the "beyond beta" promo let's have the blog promo:
get newsletter, add blog promo, keep the mobile beta promo

next merge is july 5. we should have it ready by then.
Blocks: 667603
Final assets are needed by June 1st to have enough time to build and QA this in time for a July 5th release.

Anthony - can you help out on this one?
Assignee: lforrest → anthony
Target Milestone: --- → 3.0
Sure! Reassign to me when we have all the assets.
Assignee: anthony → gjimenez
will do thanks!

hi anthony. attached are the final PSD file. please let me know if you need any additional info. thanks!
Looks like Aurora is not going to any kind of firstrun page. I started Aurora with a new profile and it's only loading about:home, the default start page.

I looked through the source code with Pike and it looks like startup.homepage_welcome_url is empty for Aurora. [1] With this pref empty, no first run page is loaded. This was changed in bug 648330.

So I guess it's too late to change that for Aurora "7" that should be built today. We should open a bug to change that in Aurora and get this page ready for Aurora "8".

[1] http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/branding/aurora/pref/firefox-branding.js
thanks rik. let's keep this open and plan for 8.
Grace: Srikanth has volunteered to help us. Since we have six weeks to get this page ready, I thought it would be a good first bug.

Srikanth: Once you've been able to run mozilla.com on your machine, you should take a look at /en-US/firefox/5.0beta/firstrun/index.html and make it the base of the new page.

One nice thing to notice is that this is an "in-product" page so you only have to check for Firefox compatibility.

Again, feel free to ask questions here or on IRC if you need.
Assignee: anthony → inbox
Thanks rik. I'll download the codebase and get started.
Ty: Maybe we could use an SVG image for the background. It should be lighter than a JPG/PNG version.
Rik: Are you wanting the purple fog with stars as an SVG image?
Target Milestone: 3.0 → Future
Ty: Yes. And maybe the vertical stripes if possible. Thanks!
Rik: Do you want me to implement the PSD provided by Grace?
http://mozilla.tyflanagan.com/artwork/WhatsNew/firstrun_FxAurora.zip
Srikanth: Yes. There is not that much to do if you use the existing page /en-US/firefox/5.0beta/firstrun/index.html.

When you have something to show, you can submit the content of a "svn diff" as a patch.
Hi Anthony,

what do we need to do to make sure we can include the first run page in the next merge? Firefox Aurora 8 in August 16th?

In addition, can we update the mobile promo? Instead of saying "take beta to go", can we update that to "Get Aurora on Mobile" and links to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Aurora

Thanks!
I suggest building this page well before the merge so we have it ready to deploy in time. Placing this in the 3.4 milestone, which has a code complete of 8/1.

Anthony & Srikanth, does that sound good to you?
Target Milestone: Future → 3.4
Sure, I'm ok with that.
Depends on: 673568
Srikanth: Could you set up mozilla.com on your machine? Any update on this? August 1st in next monday so if you don't have time, tell us. We'll take care of it and try to find a new bug for you.
I tried for atleast four hours today and I couldn't get it (fully) working. I get errors like the following,
http://pastebin.com/KWynCe1Y

Would it help if I setup the entire codebase on a live server?
As in the screenshot (link) the relative path in the config file are not being executed.
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/1968/firefoxtest.gif
Srikanth: Cool, set up is almost ok.

What do you for $config['file_root'] ?
It should be C:\wamp\www\mozilla.com\ if I understand your config.
I have the following settings,
$config['file_root'] = 'C:\wamp\www\mozilla.com';
// no trailing slash in the above file path (as per instructions)

$config['default_lang'] = 'en-US';

Here are the errors I get,

Summary: [Rapid Release] Aurora First Run Page → [Rapid Release] Implement Aurora First Run Page
in addition to change request in comment 15.

can we also update the text at the very bottom of the page:
- delete release nots - as we do not have release notes for Firefox Aurora
- Firefox Features should link to the blog post (which i dont think we can know the link until the day of)
- but Firefox Features text should not link to the http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features/

thanks!
Target Milestone: 3.4 → 3.5
Rik: Don't count on me for this bug fix. I still have a hard time getting the mozilla codebase to work properly. As a next attempt, I will try installing it on a web server and see if it works.

I wish the configuration was easier.

Sorry
Srikanth AD -- Thanks so much for your update. We'd love your help in the future, so let us know if there's any other questions you have or how our web team can help you get the codebase working.

Rik: Assigning you this bug for now to drive to completion.
Assignee: inbox → anthony
Sorry Srikanth for the hard setup process. Please try on an Ubuntu VM and ask me by mail or IRC if you have issues setting this up. Once you get this done, I'll try to find a bug for you.

Laura, Grace: I'll tyr to take care of this tomorrow.
Grace: The PSD shows a "Beta Newsletter" block. That seems inappropriate for Aurora users. What should we put there?
The "Take Beta to Go" wording feels a bit strange to me also.

I also think we should remove the Release Notes link since, afaict, we don't have release notes for Aurora.

- instead of take beta to go we want to say Get Firefox Aurora on Android! We can use the logo used here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/

+1 we should take out the release notes and also Firefox features!

can we update the copy to say Get Aurora News! Sign up for our Aurora newsletter for desktop and mobile?

or does that need to happen in the design?
Let me know if we can do the edit when we implement this page? or if we need to get the design updated.

thanks!

We can update ourself, it's text.

But do we want them to subscribe to the Beta newsletter? Is the content relevant for them? Or should we create another kind of newsletter?
Grace: Any update on the newsletter issue?
(In reply to Anthony Ricaud (:rik) from comment #32)
> Grace: Any update on the newsletter issue?

hi anthony, it should be a Auorora newsletter.
the newsletter on this page http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ has both aurora and beta. the promo in the first run can just be aurora.

does that answer the question? let me know if you need anything else.
hi rik. thanks! this looks good.

- one last feedback, per comment 15, can we update the mobile promo to say ""Get Aurora on Mobile" and links to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Aurora

other than that. i think this is good to go.

thanks!
hi rik,

did you get a chance to update the page?
aurora is expected this coming friday.

thanks!
I was on a long weekend since Monday was a holiday in France.

I've forgot to say that I removed "for desktop and mobile" on the newsletter promo because it couldn't find on two lines otherwise.

Otherwise, updated per comment 35, sorry to have missed that.

Target Milestone: 3.5 → 3.7
Rik - Thanks for the update.

Grace/Rik - Please be in touch regarding launch timing of this this coming Friday, 8/19.

Note: This is within the 3.7 release now but will need to go out earlier than that.
Looking at bug 673568 comment 8, we may not do this.
Moving to future cause it is depending on bug 673568.
Target Milestone: 3.7 → Future
Laura, should we close this as won't fix?
chrissie, lets keep it open.
i would like to revisit this again in the next week or so.

thanks!

I'm re-opening this since Aurora still does not have a First Run page, and making sure these release channel users know how to provide feedback is as important as ever.

The comment here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=673568#c8 per Grace should be resolved.

The desired behavior is to have this page show one time only, the first time the user installs Firefox Aurora.

Design: https://bug667603.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=543217

Copy Tweaks to Design:

1. Please replace all mentions of Beta with Aurora
2. Replace the Blog module with a Social Media Module
3. Social media module creative: Use these creative assets here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/whatsnew/

Twitter: Grace - can you provide that link, if we don't have Twitter what other link should we put here? What about forums?
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/FirefoxAurora

Change "Join Mozilla" to "Blog"
