RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 669463

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:5.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0.1
Build ID: 20110707182747

Steps to reproduce:

I believe that this bug may be related to bug 553048, which is marked "RESOLVED INVALID" but looking through the notes doesn't look like the cause was ever really figured out.

Anyway, I have the *opposite* problem from the one described in that bug. I somehow cannot enable Windows Search in Thunderbird 5 on Windows 7. If I go to preferences and check the box "Allow Windows Search to search messages" and click "OK", if I open the preferences again, I see that it is not checked.

If I open the config editor and set mail.winsearch.enable to true, I can see it bounce back to false immediately.

I tried enabling the mail.winsearch logging options and starting Thunderbird with the console, and then enabling search. No useful information (in fact, no information at all).

This might be a rare issue but I'm not the only one with it. In addition to the bug I mentioned above, here's someone else complaining about the same thing. http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/enabling_win7_search_on_tbird_email
