User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110928134238
Steps to reproduce:
-
Actual results:
Case: Incoming mails without a defined FROM: (REPLY TO:) address. In our case, posts sent by an email server with an undefined "REPLY TO:" adddress.
In the list of mails, the column "From" instead of dispalying a blank, displays the name of an "arbitrary" contact from the address book.
The contact that is used to resolve the "missing FROM email address" seems to be the last one that was filed in the address book. Thus, If you add a new contact, then the list is refreshed and the name of the new contact appears in the list !!!. If You Delete the contact that you just added, then the last contact's name will reappear in the list.
It is like, seeking the blank, and since the seek fails, it displays the last record.
In the Message Pane, the "From" appaears correctly, so does when you open the email.
This problem had appeared from Vesrion 6 of Thunderbird.
Expected results:
A blank should appear in the column "From" in the list of messages.
The missing FROM: in the message source causes the problem.

Using your attachment, I don't get any arbitrary contact from the addressbook. Rather, I get From: 'SENDER'.

From: header of attached mail.
> From: SENDER
This is mail address of "localpart=SENDER with no @domainpart" in localpart@domainpart format.
Do you enable next option?
Tools/Options/Advanced/Reading&Display,
[ ? ] Show only display name for people in my address book
Do you define address book contact like next in your address book?
"[ ? ] Always prefer display name over message header" is checked.
Email: field and/or Additional Email: field is "sender"
(if typed at Email: field, Tb rejects it because it's not local@domain format,)
(so "sender" in Email: field is imported from external address book file. )
(if typed at Additional Email:, Tb accepts it. )
If both are yes, dup of Bug 672966.

Hi,
As I mentioned in my e-mail ALL mails that have been sent with this "problem" (without having the sender's e-mail address) appear to have been sent by the same person of my address book. The "sender's e-mail" is arbitarry, meaning that the program always selects the e-mail of the last contact that I had enterd in my address book.
I did the following test.
Let's say that the last contact was "john@mail.gr"
a) All the mails that had this "issue" appeared like having sent by "john@mail.gr".
b) Added a new contact "george@mail.gr". By exiting and restarting thunderbird all those e-mails appeared like having sent by "george@mail.gr"
c) Removed the contact "george@mail.gr" from my address book.
d) Restrating thunderbird all mails (that had this "issue") appeared like having sent by "john@mail.gr".
Always the last contact's e-mail address appeared.
I hope that this helps.

I can't reproduce this, I remember fixing it a while ago but I can't find the bug.
