we're seeing issues with the awesome screen's tab host stealing focus from the url bar at inopportune times.  Let's investigate what we can do to fix that.

The focus gets stolen when hardware keyboard is used. Apparently it is caused by the way how TabHost class, which we use, handles the touch mode.

The stolen focus is the cause of the bug 697773. It is currently fixed by re-requesting the focus back on any key-down events, which didn't get into the edit box, but this is just a workaround, which might not work properly in some cases. For example, I saw several times that the selected text in the edit box did not get replaced with a new typed text (cannot reproduce it now though).

is this related : bug 704511?  The focus goes away from the app completely and it will crash after trying to switch tabs.

I'd keep them as separate bugs. Not sure yet if it's related.

They seem to be completely unrelated.
This focus issue is only about the Awesomebar where the edit box loses the focus on hardware keyboard input.

I think this bug should be a fennec-1.0 blocker because it can prevent the user from entering URLs.

Mark has told me about a strange behaviour when editing text on awesome bar but I can't remember the bug number. Mark?

We're not sure if this is still causing issues; let's open new bugs for any specific reproducible issues we're seeing.
