build 2001022311 / win2k Currently you can´t copy the Talkback ID to your clipboard. This would be nice for bug reports if the user can copy the # to the clipboard.

I assume this will have to be a wontfix as talkback is third party software so there's nothing mozilla.org can do apart from ask Netscape (who appear to be the ones with the talkback licence) to pass this suggestion on to fullcircle or whoever make talkback and hope that they implement it.

you are correct sir. the id really doesn't help track the problems. any unique string place in the user e-mail address is really the fastest way to help us search for a box or particular set of blackboxes. just type something into the e-mail address or user comment field and put that same string in the bug report and someone will be able to pick your report out of the database...

Just a comment: on comment #2, Chris says: "just type something into the e-mail address or user comment field and put that same string in the bug report and someone will be able to pick your report out of the database.." Pasting this information would be nice, for example in order to reuse the info as a summary for the bug report. Too bad it's a close product, I would provide the patch myself.

Could you please forward this request to the guys that make Talkback? Since the ID is what is usually asked for when people report crashers it would be nice to be able to copy it (I'm always afraid I will get that number wrong). Re: comment 2: The average user does have the background knowledge to know that any unique string will do. They just type in what's asked for in the fields (or nothing at all). The Talkback ID is automatic (and probably guaranteed to be unique) so this is what we should use.

I've attached the source for a very simplistic program that will parse talkback's "master.ini" file to find the current location of its info.db file (contains the data shown in the talkback window). It then opens that file and dumps out all the stored talkback IDs and their summaries to stdout. From here, of course, they can be put in a file, or cut and paste directly from the shell, or whatever you want. N.B.: this source contains Windows-specific code (just the use of "\" as a path separator as far as I know). I don't know if there even *exists* a talkback for non-Windows platforms, but if so, this would need to be modified to figure out the path correctly. Needs to be run from the directory containing Talkback.exe (Mozilla\components) directory. Yes, I could probably have figured this out if I was willing to add more Windows specific code to read the registry (and if I cared :-). No guarantees that it will work 100% of the time. I'm using the observed fact that all the talkback IDs start with "TB" and are preceded in the DB by a 0x01. Seems to work for me for now. If there's interest, I will attach the Windows command-line exe file.

The Talkback that comes with Firefox 0.9 for Windows allows you to copy incident IDs to the clipboard.

There's no point in this being assigned to me: I have no access to Talkback source code. It WORKSFORME on current Windows versions of TB, as comment 16 says.
