I'm using Growl 1.2.2 on Lion 10.7.2, which works good in most cases. But since Bug 691662 Thunderbird notifies my only in 50% of all new messages. On the other 50% I don't see a Growl notification. I've made a TB trunk build with this changes backed-out: http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/ee9ab83779a9 This solves this issue and I get again a notification on (nearly) every new mail. I don't know for Firefox, but I assume it could be the same there. In my mac user forum most Lion users are still on Growl 1.2.2.
Huh! The only reason I can think of is a bug in the framework. I think the 1.3 framework is out by now, we should try to update to that and see if it fixes the problem.
Do we know that the 1.3 framework is backwards-compatible with Growl 1.2.2?
Another thing: The changes made by bug 691662 to our bundled Growl framework were fairly minor. So someone who can do builds and can reproduce this problem should be able to discover which one of those changes caused the regression.

Is this still a problem with Growl 1.2.2 and today's trunk nightlies?
I found out this is only a problem if "Start Growl at Login" is not checked in the System Preferences. If this is checked, than it works normal (on nearly every new mail). If this is not checked, than is (still) works only on 50% of all new messages. Is this an expected behaviour?

Added Bug 737444 -- Thunderbird 11 does not work with Growl 1.3.3 or 1.2.2f1
Workaround in comment #5 does not work for me.
I have yet to see a Growl notification for any new TB message despite TB being appropriately configured in my Growl system preference. Using Growl 1.2.2 (App Store reviews for 1.3.3 are terrible so I am reluctant to upgrade) and TB 11.0.1 on Lion 10.7.3.
Growl support is removed!
