After Bug 691662 was fixed (status-firefox11: verified), one would expect Thunderbird 11 (tested with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:11.0) Gecko/20120313 Thunderbird/11.0) to register with Growl. No such luck -- Thunderbird does not work with either Growl 1.3.3 nor Growl 1.2.2f1 (unofficial Lion fork of 1.2.2 branch -- https://bitbucket.org/pmetzger/growl/). Firefox, however, DOES register with Growl (Bug 719485 -- RESOLVED WORKSFORME). A possibly related bug, Bug 711822 suggests only sporadic notifications with Thunderbird, but I've seen none, and manually verified that Thunderbird did not register with either version of growl. Bug 711822 also refers to a workaround (see comment #5), but this doesn't work for me. Versions: Max OS X: Lion 10.7.3 Firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0 Thunderbird: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:11.0) Gecko/20120313 Thunderbird/11.0 Growl/legacy: 1.2.2f1 Growl/current: 1.3.3

Are both applications listed in your Growl application list? For me neither Firefox 11 nor Thunderbird 11 are listed there and don't work with Growl 1.3.3 and Mac OS X 10.7.3
Please also test with current trunk nightlies.
Only Firefox is listed in the Growl application list. I have not confirmed whether Growl notifications actually show up, I'm just going by appearance in the list for the moment. Tests with nightlies forthcoming -- please be patient, this is my production machine. :)
No luck with 13.0a2 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:13.0) Gecko/20120320 Thunderbird/13.0a2) or 14.0a1 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:14.0) Gecko/20120320 Thunderbird/14.0a1) with either version of Growl.
I had the same problem that TB was not listed in the Growl application list, long time ago. Therefore I've put /Users/Library/Application Support/Growl/Tickets/Thunderbird.growlTicket from another Computer to my Computer. After that it was listed.
Replacing the ticket from backup does not work for me.
Let me clarify - Thunderbird now appears on the applications list, but still does not show any Growl messages.
(In reply to Nomis101 from comment #5) I don't even have that folder!
(In reply to Frederik Niedernolte from comment #8) > (In reply to Nomis101 from comment #5) > > I don't even have that folder! Oh, but you should. Have you looked in your user Library? Not in /Library!
Oh, that's right but there are no ticket files from Thunderbird or Firefox.
Steven, I've just installed growl and Thunderbird nightly doesn't show up. Are there magical steps to follow to get it listed ?
Ludovic: I don't know (I don't use Growl regularly). Others here may know more. Which version of Growl? What version of OS X? I assume your Thunderbird nightly is a current trunk nightly.
Some positive news: I recently updated my 1.2.2 (the original) install to the latest Growl from the App Store (1.4) and was happy to find that Thunderbird and Firefox now work as expected with Growl. Tested with OS X 10.7.4, Growl 1.4, Thunderbird 12.0.1/13.0.1 and Firefox 12.0.1/13.0.1
Hayo, it works because you already had Thunderbird registered with Growl on the old version, so the ticket was already there. The main issue here is if you're installing Growl for the first time, Thunderbird won't register with Growl. I can confirm the work-around in comment 5, works with Thunderbird 14 and Mountain Lion. The path isn't specified correctly though - you need to put your login id in the path: /Users/(your account)/Library/Application Support/Growl/Tickets/Thunderbird.growlTicket i.e., ~/Library/Application Support/Growl/Tickets/Thunderbird.growlTicket I copied the ticket from my old Growl 1.2.2f1 install into the new 1.4 install and Thunderbird is now registered and notifications are working. I can also report that Thunderbird will register itself with Hiss ( http://collect3.com.au/hiss ).
WORKSFORME *partially* in 17.0.4 stable. Can anyone confirm? Growl notifications show up (works) but clicking on them does not bring up the email message (DOES NOT WORK) or even bring Thunderbird to the front.
Growl support has been removed from mozilla-central and comm-central =>WONTFIX

Interesting to see the status has been changed to "Wontfix" and that growl support has been removed. Does this mean future versions will be/are integrated with the Mac message center instead? Note though that, like Eugene, growl seems to work ok with 17.0.4 still.
