home laptop, vista
was in moz-FF folder,
clicked on Inbox - wasn't getting response
clicked on Inbox again
hang

on startup, I found my msgFilterRules.dat got trashed/reset to default (nothing).
Computer was otherwise fine, as is rest of thunderbird profile.
I had not changed msgFilterRules.dat during that session.
assuming msgFilterRules.dat loss was caused by the hang.

Is this an ssl connection? This deadlock looks similar to but not the same as a couple other bugs, bug 698882, bug 711787

Yes this is, for me, an SSL connection. This is a POP connect to Gmail. The same configuration that I have been using as setup by the Thunderbird Account Wizard. It has worked with TBird 3.x, 5.0 thru 11.0a1. This started with 12.0a1.

I don't see any reason why the lost of msgFilterRules.dat and the hang should be directly related. We write out msgFilterRules.dat synchronously from the UI thread.

I just lost my filters as well, w/o a hang. I suspect it's a different issue - I'll look into it.

afaik, it should be ssl, so could be related to those. I have an imap log if you need it, but nothing more.

yeah, I don't really expect that one affects the other - the dependency is speculative.  the filter issue can be pursued in bug 713429

I had just seen another unattended hang, so I put regression? in whiteboard on speculation that this might be a regression, given the frequency with which I have been hanging. But it was with 11.0a 20111118 so I didn't get a stacktrace with symbols :(

hung again today (hmm, what date was that??), while away from work PC in remote desktop session.

I remembered that I had installed tonequilla on 12/15 so I have disabled it. (and no hangs this week)
