User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0
Build ID: 20111104165243
Steps to reproduce:
Opened Account Settings dialogue box. Changed a setting. Clicked on OK. OK button "recognised" my click. Box remained open.
To proceed, I clicked Cancel button, which meant the settings changes were not saved.
Actual results:
Settings changes were not saved.
I tried to do this several times, and OCCASIONALLY the changes were saved and the dialogue box closed.
Expected results:
The settings changes should have been saved and the dialogue box should have closed.

Try to save anything again and when it fails, check the error console and report it here.

If wrong folder(hidden folder, non-existent folder, and so on) is set in Copies&Folders and/or Junk Setting, phenomenon of bug 557030 and/or bug 536768 occurs, and no feed back for error is returned from Tb then OK button is simply ignored.
Same problem?

Thanks Hashem.
Tried to do as you suggested BUT .....
Made changes 3 times and each time the changes were saved in the correct fashion. (Like going to the dentist - the ache disappears as soon as you arrive.)
So I thought I would send the error console anyway as it might reveal what WAS happening.
I can read it, but where do I find the file to send it to you?

Wada
I don't think this has anything to do with the bugs you listed.
But I can't see a feedback error from TB and so the OK button is probably just ignored as you said.

Recent Thunderbird seems to reset to default folder(e.g. "Junk" folder of this account if Junk Setting, Archives of this account,if Archive of Copies&Folders) if Tb founds that specified folder at Copies&Folders or Junk Settings is not accessible. So, after several tries or restart of Tb and so on, if problem of bug 557030 or bug 536768 internally exists, wrong folder setting(e.g. non-existent account setting at XXX folder of: account's name. non-exstent account's folder, non-existent folder of existent account, at folder selection of Others:) in some of Copies&Folders or Junk Settings may automatically disappear.
Because you didn't see problem directly with Copies&Folders or Junk Settings, you probably saw phenomenon reported to Bug 709581. See Bug 709581 Comment #9, please. Bug 709581 is report for wrong folder in Junk Settings, but it may occur when wrong folder setting exists in Copies&Folders.
Try to go into each of the panels in the Account manager. See if any one it obviously broken (like dropdown menus (folder pickers) with no items), etc. The close the account manager, even with cancel. Go into Tools->Error console. If there are any errors or warnings, on each of them rightclick and choose Copy. Then paste each one here.
I also think this could be 709581 or something similar.

Thanks aceman. I have done as you suggested and have copied the warnings below.

Today, when I made changes in the Account Manager, hitting the OK button didn't close the AM, but the changes were retained when I next looked in there. In the past changes were rarely retained when the AM box didn't close automatically.
Unfortunately none of those warnings helps us in any way. They are not related to the Account manager.
Have you tried Safe mode (tools->restart with addons disabled)? Also, you could upgrade to TB10.

I think I might have seen a pattern in this problem.
If I change an item on the page of one account, then move to another account and change an item, and then finally press OK, the dialogue box does not close and only the change on the last is recorded. The box remains open waiting for the changes on the other page to be OKed. In other words, each page needs to be OKed that has been changed, and when all the changed pages have been OKed, the dialogue box closes.

I don't think that is the case. It is not necessary to OK each page in the account manager.
Can you tell exactly which page and item are you changing?

Most often ii is the number of minutes to check for new messages in the Server Settings page.

OK, so try to change the setting in one account and click OK.
Do this for each account individually.
When you find the account that where OK is not working, can you go to the Junk settings of that account and attach a screenshot here?

Thanks. You can see in the screenshot that your Junk settings are broken. The dropdown menus (folder pickers) to the right of "Junk folder on:" and "Other:" are empty, which is not correct. Something must be there, you can check then in the other working accounts. Even if you do not use the option "Move junk messages to". So I'd say this is exactly bug 709581. That was depended on bug 472959, which is already fixed. If you go through comments in bug 472959, you'll find links (like this one: https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/junk_mail_settings_cant_be_removed) where people have exactly the same screenshots (Junk settings empty).
You can now go into Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Config editor, then filter for spamActionTarget, right-click on each of
the found items and use Reset. Then go into the Junk settings of each account and you'll see the dropdown lists (folder pickers) are not empty now. You can set them any way you wish now. Or leave unchecked if you do not use them. But all your other settings in other panels should now work save fine on first click on OK.
Please tell us if this worked. If yes, we will dupe this against 709581.

Thanks aceman. All is now working as it should. Really appreciate your skill and willingness to keep at this for me.
