User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 Build ID: 20111220165912 Steps to reproduce: I wrote an email in English, selecting "Anglais (GB)" (meaning English (UK)" in the top menu. Actual results: My email sentences were underlined as wrong! (See "I wish you the best" at the top right for example.) The language selected in the context menu was "Français" (meaning "French") ! Expected results: There shouldn't have been any inconsistencies between top and context menus! My email should have been proofread without any problem...
(In reply to David Bourguignon from comment #0) I don't have this problem here. I have the German and English dictionaries. User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:9.0) Gecko/20111222 Thunderbird/9.0.1 Application Build ID: 20111222141531
Thanks Hashem. I don't know why I have so many issues with TB that others don't have! :-) In any case, as for Bug 716206, this language selection problem is very common: I encounter it everyday! I wish someone using the French-localized version of TB could check this too. Thanks again for your help.
I just try to reproduce this bug without success. I use a French release of Thunderbird 11.0a2 and the "United States English Spellchecker" add-on on Win XP. Maybe there are other extension that interact badly with Thunderbird? David, could you try again using a new profile?
Hi Caméléon! Thanks for your help. I'm using the French release of TB v9.0.1 (latest official TB release, AFAIK). Here is the list of my currently installed extensions: AdBlock Plus, British English Dic, Compact Header, Extra Folder Column (those two were preinstalled), German Dic, Test Pilot (preinstalled), US English Dic. Nothing really fancy, I guess... :-) Since I have never tried switching profiles (and I don't know how this will affect my current TB use), I would rather try to catch the bug on other installations... I will give you more info about all this asap! Thanks again for your help.
David - can you try disabling all the other add-ons besides the dictionaries ?
Hi Ludovic, sorry for taking so long to reply... I've deactivated all add-ons except the dictionaries, that is, Adblock Plus 2.0.3, CompactHeader 2.0.1, Extra Folder Columns 1.1.4, Test Pilot for Thunderbird 1.3.5. And unfortunately nothing changed... I checked: the bug is still there. Thanks for your help!
David does Firefox exhibits the same issue ?
Hi Ludovic, I can confirm that there are no such issues in Firefox since language selection is entirely local (by right-clicking to open the context menu when the mouse pointer is in a text area). The inconsistency in Thunderbird is between the language selection using a context menu in the mail composition text area and the language selection in the mail window menu. Hope it helps... Thanks in advance!
And you are using the default theme ?
Hi Ludovic, yes, I do confirm that I am using the default theme for both Thunderbird and Firefox (both being the latest released versions). Thanks in advance!
Grmmmm I'm running out of ideas :(
Thanks Ludovic! I think we could close this bug report now... I haven't observed the phenomenon for a while (at least since the last two releases of Mozilla Thunderbird). Thanks again for your help!
