User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) AppleWebKit/535.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/17.0.963.46 Safari/535.11 Steps to reproduce: Entering English text under English spell checking setting. Actual results: Spell checking falls back to German and marks all English words red. Setting spell check on pulldown to English works for a while but then German setting sets in again (not shown in pulldown) and all words are marked red in German spell setting. To reproduce (assumed - I was using this setting for a long time and it was fine before upgrade to 9.1): - have German spell checking installed - write email with German spell checking, save email - write email with English spell checking, observe English text entered spell-checked in German and marked red Expected results: When English spell checking is selected, English spell checking should stay until another language is selected.
Version: 9 → 10
Unchanged after update to 10.0
(In reply to bugzilla-inbox from comment #1) > Unchanged after update to 10.0 See bug 720206. This works for me: User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:10.0) Gecko/20120129 Thunderbird/10.0 Application Build ID: 20120129064000
Update - forgot to put in OS - Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3 Thunderbird is English version 10.0 after upgrade, symptoms unchanged
Unchanged after update from 10.0 to 10.0.1 In addition: I write about 30 % of messages in German with spell check enabled.

What locale is used for Thunderbird , english or German ? can you list your installed extensions ?
To answer your questions: Thunderbird is in EN Extensions are: - German Dictionary 2.0.2 - Lightning 1.2.1 - Remove Duplicate Messages 0.1.10 - Test Pilot for Thunderbird 1.3.5 BUT - I got the issue solved with a workaround. - Doing MozBackup of the the whole shebang (2 G) and put it on a new THB install of on another EN WXP. - Needed to install the German Dictionary 2.0.2 Addon there to test Result - Error did not travel Ergo - uninstalled the German Dict Addon on the original THB showing the error - reinstalled the German Dict Addon Error no longer shows. Seems to be some confusion in spell checker selection which may lurk around somewhere. I am leaving this "Unconfirmed" since I saw other posts where the red underlining came up in defective spell checking situations.
There are definitely problems with the language settings. Symptoms of this looks (roughly) like bug 1059835. Feel free to un-dupe if not.
