Mozilla 2001031604, Win98 IE4+ on Windows uses shift+left-click on a link to open the link in a new window. Mozilla should, too, since the Windows Mozilla doesn't (seem to) have the option of using the Unix-style middle-click. I miss this when I switch over to Windows from Linux, and I think advanced IE users will, too.
You should check your prefs file or something, middle click to open in new window for win32 was fixed a month or two ago. I would say modifier-click is preferable, since shift-click is the shortcut to save links.
wontfix? we already support middle click as a pref (just enable it), and shift click is already overburdenned.

Current Mozilla keybindings on Windows (iirc): Shift-click -- save link Control-click -- open link in new window Alt-click -- extend selection into link Basically, we are being compatible with NS 4.x on these keybindings. See bug 58283 and bug 70430

Marking WONTFIX, for reasons stated.

How can this be a WONTFIX? This should be the default behavior on Windows builds. Over 90% of the Windows users are now using IE. If they are to switch to Mozilla, we will need to have the same key bindings. Let's not forget just how used people are to the IE key bindings. We should not just ignore this. Suggest REPOEN.
This is a dup.

On both Firefox and Internet Explorer Shift+click opens the link in a new window. Why is Seamonkey different? I installed it half an hour ago, it's a great tool, but for me completely unusable, I'm using shift+click every 10 seconds. I'm uninstalling Seamonkey now and returning to Firefox, I will wait until Shift+click work the way it should.
