some applications, like Zimbra Desktop will show an indication on its icon in the dock when there are waiting new emails. It would be nice if apps like we install could do that. Thinking for gmail and zimbra, specifically.
I wonder if we should consider creating an equivalent feature request for Web apps on Android. Harald - Thoughts?
We can not change the icon for a homescreen shortcut we created, its not a interface pattern on Android. Badges (iOS term) would be great, but we should find a notification pattern that works cross-platform. For better feedback, we might consider http://dev.w3.org/2006/webapi/WebNotifications/publish/ ?
Bug 782211 just landed, maybe if thats not enough its worth taking this to WHATWG to add to the notification spec? Unity on Ubuntu supports this, showing task progression and numerical display http://developer.ubuntu.com/resources/technologies/launcher/ Imagine B2G may find some use out of it too.
For desktop I think this is the same as bug 775963.
(In reply to Marco Castelluccio [:marco] from comment #4) > For desktop I think this is the same as bug 775963. No, I think this is about badging of filesystem icons rather than displaying a tray icon or menu extra.
Per bug 1238079, we're going to disable the desktop web runtime and remove it from the codebase, so we won't fix these bugs in the integration between Firefox and the runtime.
