One Thing I miss really is an interface for sending sms(Short Messages) to cellphones in the TB address book. That's a thing i find extremely helpful in my messaging application and is one argument that keeps me from switching to TB.
I think the way kde 3.5.x/kmail got this in a very practical and cool way:
Just give the possibility to enter a system command for sending the messages(Don't care about sending this by TB itself). Then have a link at the mobile number(if available) on the address card that opens up a very simple sms writing dialog.
See the Screenshot for further clearance.
This type of implementation is some sort of platform independent too. Everyone can use his own system specific command here.

Check this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/tms-bulk-sms

Thanks for your help Hashem.
The use of tms-bulk-sms is a bit limited as this add-on works only with the provider that created this addon: TMS. And this provider supports only southafrican networks. So this is not of use.
I also searched for usable plugins quite thoroughly and i think there is no really working add-on with recent TB versions.

Hi, B2G has WebSMS implemented, maybe all that we should do is enable it in thunderbird build and create some backend for command line tools.

The interfaces will be present in Thunderbird already. A back-end interface to services or even command-line tools would be possible, it would be worth experimenting with that in extensions first, due to the specialism of different platforms wrt sms.
