List Name: mozilla.community.dev.b2g.br List Admin: shollmann@mozilla.com, clauber.halic@gmail.com, Short Description: Mailing list for the B2G app developers in Brazil Long Description: This mailing list is the communication channel for web developers who aim to create great apps for B2G in the Brazilian market. On this mailing list you can find help or generate content like open source projects, questions/answers, suggestions, news and training material. Justification / Special Instructions: One of the goals for dev engagement is to have a 100 high-quality B2G Apps for Brazil by Q4 for the Mozilla Marketplace. One of the strategies to get us there is to create a Brazilian Portuguese User Group where developers can post questions, suggestions, etc.
Surely we are creating Open Web Apps, not B2G apps? It seems to me that having B2G in the name of the group would send rather the wrong message about that... There is already a mozilla.dev.webapps, which is for the people developing WebRT. We'd want to avoid confusion, so I'd suggest keeping this out of the "dev" hierarchy, which is about Mozilla code development, not 3rd party code development. I assume the idea is that the discussion is in Portuguese? If so, we should use language codes, not country codes. Putting all that together, I'd suggest: mozilla.webapps (English) mozilla.webapps.pt-br (Portuguese; by analogy with mozilla.dev.l10n.pt-br) Gerv
Thanks Gerv for the advise! I really tried to think the best place to put the list. Probably you could give us a little bit more of help. We want a mailing list for Brazilians or Portuguese speakers who develop apps for B2G. The idea, is to have a place where we can give support to devs. I am afraid to put it under Open Web Apps because it means that we will give support to everyone who creates apps for B2G or Desktop. I can imagine: mozilla.b2gapps.pt-br, is that possible? What do you think about what we should do? Thanks, Nuno.
Nuno: but I thought the entire point of Open Web Apps is that you don't make them for a specific platform or OS, they just work everywhere - B2G, desktop, wherever? If that's part of the selling point, it doesn't seem to make sense to have a development forum specifically for people making B2G apps. I think also that everyone making apps will want to be in a community and share knowledge. There's no value in splitting the community up into smaller pieces. So I'd suggest that mozilla.webapps.pt-br is the right name. Gerv
Gerv, you are right. Let's use mozilla.webapps.pt-br Thanks!! Nuno.
OK. Over to server-ops for the creation of mozilla.webapps and mozilla.webapps.pt-br. I think we will need an English version of this forum too, for people outside Brazil. Nuno: are you happy to moderate both of them? Gerv

https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/webapps https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/webapps-pt-br Emails have been sent to Nuno for admin access to both lists. It'll take a day or two for Giganews to add them.

Yeah, sure. I can moderate both. I haven't received any e-mail with the passwords (for both lists). Thanks, Nuno.

What's up with Google Groups? Without the Google Group this is pretty useless for our next event starting Aug30. Any insight? I've escalated the bug, pls let me know if this is a Google dependency
Severity: normal → major
We need to re-ping our contact at Google with a list of groups which still need to be activated. To do that, we need to confirm which ones need to be moderated. This is on mburns' plate; I discussed it with him on Friday. I am sure he is treating it as a matter of urgency :-) Gerv
Can we try unmoderated and add moderation if the need arises later? TIA. Thank you for treating this as a matter of urgency. Leaving for Brazil on 8/23. :)
Any update on this? I am currently unable to send or receive messages to the pt-br list, which means that what's intended as a key Basecamp communication channel is useless. thanks.
In my past experience getting a Mailman/Google Group list setup is really quick. What is the expected turn around? When can we expect to have it set up? Thanks!
We have an event next week that we want to be able to point people to this list for discussion and follow up.
Severity: major → critical
Got a follow-up response today from one of the Google Engineers. "...so your groups should show up by early next week, since they do pushes weekly. Good news is that they are working on a new system to do these updates in more-or-less-real-time, so most groups should show up within 24 hours of their creation, and this new system should be in production within the next few weeks." (this is separate from the 'updated system' that was rolled out this spring, that alleviated some of the corner cases we were bumping into). In the meantime, http://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/webapps-pt-br and http://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/webapps are the best places to ensure access to the discussion.
thanks for the update. We have an important Firefox OS hack day in Brazil on Saturday, so it's kind of sad that the Google groups hookup isn't ready for that, but I feel somewhat more confident now about driving enrollment to these lists.
