User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0 Build ID: 20120601045813 Steps to reproduce: File \ Save As \ File Adjust file name, pull down Save as type menu and select HTML files (or add .html to file name), hit Save button. Actual results: Got Alert "Unable to save the message. Please check your file name and try again later." Will Save As .eml only, but the .eml file is missing any remote content. Expected results: Saved as "file name.html" complete with remote content. Bur slightly smaller file than the .eml file type. As all previous Thunderbird versions.

Confirmed in current trunk: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:16.0) Gecko/16.0 Thunderbird/16.0a1 Error console: Error: An error occurred executing the cmd_saveAsFile command: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004003 (NS_ERROR_INVALID_POINTER) [nsIMessenger.saveAs]" nsresult: "0x80004003 (NS_ERROR_INVALID_POINTER)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/mailCommands.js :: SaveAsFile :: line 299" data: no] Source file: chrome://global/content/globalOverlay.js Line: 106 Just as an aside, I have never found any great utility in these save_as options. I create local folders (within the TB profile) and move the wanted messages there. Or you could use the "template" folder for that purpose.

Yes, thanks Joe. Manually saving the files out of TB as html (smallest complete file type) just follows a long history here allowing organizing (granted TB folders would do that) but more importantly compressing that organization independently of the email client (or archival software). This is the second TB update with "detail" bugs. 12 had the new mail sound out of sync with what was on the server, helping lead to 12.0.1 I suspect? And 13 also has a problem auto updating Lightning from 1.4 to 1.5, but since that can be done manually I didn't even mention it. Point being perhaps the updates are coming a little fast now for through prior check out? DES

Same for .txt format - unable to save a message. Very annoying bug - I normally save some messages as .txt every day.

Regression range: 20120307 works 20120308 fails Thats with winxp and nightly builds Str File save_as file dropdown to select html rename the file extension as .html (stayed as .eml after selecting html)
Whiteboard: [gs]
Also reproduced in SeaMonkey 2.10 on Windows 7, though mailCommands.js is forked between those applications. The changelog for toolkit/content/globalOverlay.js doesn't show any checkin for the regression range listed in comment #7.

My guess, a regression from: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=186724#c23

Weird, this works for me on Windows 7, TB 13.Maybe it's only in XP or trunk or nightly or maybe the steps to reproduce aren't clear enough. I have tried Donald Smith's steps to reproduce with both .txt and .html and can't reproduce the problem. rsx11m and Joe Sabash what exactly are your steps to reproduce?

(In reply to Joe Sabash from comment #7) > File save_as file > dropdown to select html This fails for me as described on Local Folders, but works on IMAP folders. Also, I'm unable to reproduce this on Linux - Windows file URLs again?

Thank-you RSX11M. Reproduced the problem on POP accounts and Local Folders. Cannot reproduce on IMAP accounts.
