Details

Browsing sites with a dedicated mobile page causes unwanted entries to appear in browser history and so in Awesome* autocomplete suggestions on all Synced devices - two prominent examples are www.theverge.com (mobile.theverge.com) and www.guardian.co.uk (m.guardian.co.uk)

There needs to be some way to de-duplicate mobile sites in browsing history - perhaps Canonical URLs are the answer? See e,g, http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html . See also this older bug about using the canonical URL for bookmarking, bug 502418.

This might come in useful for bug 507471 - sending the canonical version of a page to the other device is surely a better experience than sending the mobile version.

Note: the two sites I mentioned don't yet use canonical URLs consistently enough for this to work completely smoothly (maybe this is just an evangelism issue) - checking the source of some pages I see that: the theverge.com main site doesn't use Canonical URLS but the articles do; the guardian.co.uk uses Canonical URLs for its www. pages but not for its m. pages. But they still somehow avoid duplicate entries in google search.

Even if this is an older bug, I'll mark it as a duplicate of Bug 1332621 (seems to be the same issue) since that one is already prioritized and worked on, as part of Activity stream. Please reopen if I'm wrong.
