from bug 78255... adding jglick's comments here, too: ------- Additional Comments From jglick@netscape.com 2001-05-02 11:13 ------- For Editor, it would open the "Save Page as" dialog, correct? Aaron should verify this key combo is available, and if so, sounds like a nice area. [it's not reserved, afaik --ed.] As for mail, using the same accel for Save as File would be nice too. Currently, File -->Save as--> File opens a "Export to Text" (bad title) dialog if no html and the "Save Page as" dialog if html is included. Shouldn't it be opening the same dialog for both with the option to save as either .txt or .html?

I would *much*, *much*, *much* more prefer we keep the keybinding as accel-s (like it is today). I don't think users will easily discover they need to use the shift-key to save. I'd prefer to see this bug resolved as "wontfix"
nbaca just brought up a good point. Mail has the 3 Pane AND Mail Compose. Mail Compose is similar to Editor in that we have both "Save" and "Save As": File -->Save Ctrl+S (which saves as a Draft by default) AND File -->Save As -->File (Proposed "Ctrl+Shift+S) Draft Template But 3 Pane Mail only has "Save As": File -->Save As -->File Ctrl+S Template So it would be bad that this would be different in 3 Pane vs Mail Compose. So I'd actually rather NOT see this done in Mail. (But see the benefit to Editor in which you may want save alternate versions of a file more frequently)

Brade, we can't keep the current shortcut for saving as a file in message composition, because currently we don't *have* a shortcut for saving as a file in message composition.

jglick's comment 7 implies that she did not read her own comment 2, which is still correct. Ctrl-S in the *compose* window (this bug's component) saves as Draft, and there is no shortcut for Save As File. That seems OK to me -- how often do you need to save an in-composition message as a file? Saving as a template would be more likely. I would WontFix this bug.

Save as should remember what format you save as last time. We have to save our emails as text on network folders for job # specific archival. I only wish that it would remember to save as text each time I save and better yet allow me to drag and drop the email as text to the specific system folder. Hope I got this in the right place?
