Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1
Build ID: 20120905151427
Steps to reproduce:
Ok, so this has happened several times now & only started with version 15.0.01
I am writing e-mails & maybe the e-mail window stays open throughout the day as I'm not finished writing it.
Actual results:
All of a sudden out of the blue the word "attaching" pops up in the bottom left corner, & the e-mail starts to scroll & won't stop.
Here's a SS
http://i972.photobucket.com/albums/ae209/michellek2010/TB-Attaching-Bug.jpg
I finally figured out that if the e-mail was closed at this point it wouldn't have saved anything up after the bug occurred or maybe I lose everything as that happened to me once. I wasn't happy.
I also figured out that the only way to get it to stop is to do a "file ---> save"
I thought this was the same issue I've been having (I've submitted a bug over a year ago) where if I do a compact while an e-mail window is open, then the e-mail will stop saving & it starts causing problems, but it's not, b/c this still happens when I haven't compacted & the words & behavior is different.
Expected results:
Shouldn't be getting that error at all.
I'm on XP Professional.

Is "bug you submitted over a year ago" bug 586619?
If so, it was perhaps phenomenon stated in bug 532395 comment #42.
> I am writing e-mails & maybe the e-mail window stays open throughout the day as I'm not finished writing it.
If you compose HTML mail with embed image, and if you enable auto-save, and if you enable auto-compact"(mail.prompt_purge_threshhold=true, mail.purge_threshhold_mb=NNN) but you request Tb to do auto-compact silently(mail.purge.ask=true is NOT set), same thing as bug 532395 comment #42 can happen.
Do you enable auto-save?
Do you enable auto-compact?
Is Drafts folder IMAP folder? Or local Drafts folder(POP3/Local Folders)?

Summary: Attaching text at the bottom left of an open e-mail window → After some idle time, composition window hangs with "Attaching..." in status bar
To answer your questions:
1. Yes I believe I have auto save enabled. I tried to go look both in account settings & options & couldn't find where that is anywhere. I even searched on the TB help site & it didn't find a reference to it, but I know it's saving the e-mails.
2. Yes auto compact is enabled, but I have to click on "compact" when the dialogue box pops up.
3. All of my e-mail is POP. This particular account has it's own inbox as well as it's own draft folder. I have tons of e-mail accounts. About 20 of them go to "Local Folders" the rest have their own inboxes.
HTH
Thanks
Michelle

Reverting unintentional change of summary of comment 2.
Michelle, you said in comment 0 "the email starts to scroll and won't stop". Can you explain that? Say you have text "Hello world start" at the beginning of a long draft message, "Middle text" in the middle and "Goodbye" far down at the end, what happens on your screen?

Hi Thomas,
How are you doing?
Didn't you view the SS in the URL above? It shows you exactly what it does. I mean I can't make it so the black horizontal scrollbar is dynamic, but it should give you an idea : )
Thanks
Michelle

Do you see your problem by following?
(0) Show "Order Received" column(offset of mail if local mail folder).
(1) If dialog before auto-compct is shown, reply "Cancel".
(2) If composition window is opened when the dialog is shown,
close mail composition window, and check "Offset" of last saved draft mail.
(4) Do "Compact Folders" for account who holds the Drafts folder.
Is Offset of draft mail changed by Compact?
(5) If mail composition should be continued, Edit draft.
(6) If Compact of other accounts is needed at this step, execute "Compact Folders" for all other account?

Hi Michelle, could be better, could be worse ;)

Of course I saw the screenshot, but unfortunately this is geek talk :) where "scroll" has the very specific meaning of moving the page up and down for reading, whereas you are probably referring to the "progress bar" located in the lower-right corner of your status bar at the bottom of the window. So that progress bar is indicating progress forever without actually making progress, right?
Well at least you are alive : ) Ditto on that.
Ahh, thanks for educating me.
Yes, it just keeps scrolling.
It happened again just a little while ago & this time when I went to save it I don't think it did b/c it kept showing that word "attaching" & it kept progressing. : )

To bug opener, is composed mail HTML mail? If HTML mail, is embed image involved in the HTML mail?
If HTML mail with embed image, when your problem occurred, what was shown as "image location" at compose window?
Because you use local mail folder only(no IMAP), as I wrote in bug 532395 comment #42, image location is represented like next.
> mailbox:.../Inbox%3Ennn?part=1.2&filename=magenta-32x32.PNG
> A
> |
> +--- Offset of original mail in local mail folder
Is latest draft mail held at "Offset=nnn" in local Drafts folder?
(Show "Order Received" column. Column value is offset of mail if local mail folder)
Note: a phenomenon written in bug 532395 comment #42 is problem when the referenced offset is altered by Compact of local Drafts folder.

Much Techno-speak here but, I think I am having the same problem as the folks here as are other users in other forums some claiming this has been a problem for years.
When replying to an email for an undetermined amount of time (sometimes long, sometimes not as long) a progress bar at the bottom of the window appears with the caption "Attaching". Once this happens attempting to send or save the message is futile. TB hangs in this mode indefinitely.
It does not seem to matter if the in-line, quoted messages have attachments or not. My reply is set to include my .jpg signature.
I can copy my reply, close the open window, and re-reply pasting my copied content and sending immediately.
I cannot confirm auto-save or auto-compact as I can find no such options under Account Settings or Options.
I am running version 16.0.2 on a Windows XP machine. I have been experiencing this problem on and off for about a year now.

Setting Dependency to bug \for ease of analysis and tracking.
Depends on: 817245

As I wrote in bug 817245, "Image location" of embed image in composing/editing HTML mail is shown like next, where nnn=Offset(local mail folder) or nnn=UID(IMAP mail folder).
> mailbox:.../Inbox%3Ennn?part=1.2&filename=EmbedImage.jpg
> mailbox:.../Drafts%3Ennn?part=1.2&filename=EmbedImage.jpg
> imap://user-id@imap.gmail.com:993/fetch%3EUID%3E/INBOX%3Ennn?part=1.2&filename=EmbedImage.jpg
> imap://user-id@imap.gmail.com:993/fetch%3EUID%3E/Drafts%3Ennn?part=1.2&filename=EmbedImage.jpg
And, nnn=Offset(local mail folder) or nnn=UID(IMAP mail folder) of a mail is shown as "Order Received" column value by Tb.
Bug opener, if you will see problem again, view "Image Location", check mail of Offset=nnn or UID=nnn which is pointed by the "Image Lcation" in mail folder which is pointed by the "Image Location", and check whether your problem is same issue as bug 453196/bug 817245 or not, please.
