Firefox 17 will not be a silent update and whill have a /whatsnew/ page displayed to promote the SocialAPI/Facebook messages feature integrated in the browser.
We don't have the page created yet but it will be very similar to the current whatsnew page. We will also have promotional messages on the about:home page for this feature.
Filing this as a tracker bug for the mozilla.org translation work needed for this release, one bug per locale.

I thought that the page on stage was not ready yet but we would have it before the release, untill i got a notification for firefox 17... so let's hope that everything fits :-)
It looks like all locales have at least 3 english strings in the page that's currently on stage:
"Get firefox news"
"Your email here"
"Sign me up"

Don't worry George, in the end we don't use that page for Firefox 17 (probably for firefox 18). The 3 strings are a recent addtion and will only display for the few locales that translate the monthy Firefox Newsletter, I didn't add them to the file so as not to have people thinking that they to fix them for the release.
