The new sumo translation editor is using rich text editor, but the editor itself has some problems editing RTL texts, making it very difficult to use while translating articles. * edited texts has a gray backgrounds, while on RTL the background appears at the opposite side of the text. * While the RTL texts are written from right to left, the keyboard cursor doesn't respect this rule and keep moving from left to right while typing, making it appear very weird on RTL. * Keyboard cursor keys doesn't behave well, making it very difficult to move in the line using the keyboard cursors and not the mouse.
Tomer, we are using the ACE editor. Can you try it out and tell us if you see the same behavior there? If not, that means that we need to fix our code, if it's the same we have limited options: http://ace.ajax.org/#nav=about

This isn't the same issue as bug 1093509.

This may be an issue that we can fix by upgrading ACE. A new version came out recently. 1pt to do that, but if that isn't the issue, I think we are kind of stuck here. We should investigate if ACE is tracking this issue elsewhere, and if not, maybe we need to switch to another editor. Note: the estimate here isn't to fix the issue in ACE. I don't think that is within our grasp. The estimate here is to upgrade ACE, and if that works, researching alternatives.

Let's see if it works with upgrade and if it doesn't can't we ditch ace and look for CodeMirror as an alternative as i most probably they have full support for RTL https://github.com/codemirror
Same Case happen for Bengali. Actually which language has complex scriipt, ACE has problem with them And its tracking here in the issue of ACE(1) 1. https://github.com/ajaxorg/ace/issues/1531#issuecomment-73219579
Mythmon, this issue is still happen in the latest version of Ace. I think rather than updating to the latest version of Ace, we should change the text Editor to Codemirror or Some thing else. Topal, What do you think about changing the Editor?

Safwan, we are moving to another editor indeed. See bug 1156856 We are removing this bug from the current sprint to work on the above.

Safwan, is this still an issue with the move to CodeMirror?

(In reply to Kadir Topal [:atopal] from comment #10) > Safwan, is this still an issue with the move to CodeMirror? Topal, This is not an Issue after moving to Codemirror. Also, as I can see that its also not issue with Arabic. Yaseen can have more inside about RTL and Arabic scripting. @Yaseen and Tomar, Did you notice any problem currently in SUMO Editor?

Thanks @Safwan for the heads up. As far as things are concerned with ur/ar locale, all things are working smooth, not that much smooth but pretty great as comparing to Ace. Still though there's a small glitch: I had typed some ur strings and then after English strings, After that i had tried to select English text but the text is not appear to be getting selected. I think that's still acceptable, Otherwise everything is fine as far as I had checked.

Mohammed, that sounds like an interesting issue. Can you file a separate bug for that? I think it is a different problem.
