We'd like to have a video snippet scheduled & made for our push at Flicks R2, February 13th. Duration: ?
***Assets
Video(s): The video will be one of our upcoming promotional videos. Would it be possible to rotate up to 3 videos? (Delivery: February 11th)
Icon: Please use the Flicks-2013 icon that we already have. Link needed
Copy: Would it make sense to use what we had already written for the R1 snippet, when it was supposed to be a video-snippet?
Localisation: This should run in all locales. Once the copy is locked we need to localize things.
Winston - Possible to get this slot? Also, could you please assist me with things that need to be done now? E.g. do we need additional bugs? Dev bug?
Thanks all.

So does this override the R2 snippet we've already filed implementation bugs for and localized?

Chelsea, no, I haven't noticed those. Could you please send me a link? I don't know how-to discover them, simple search didn't work for me.

Chelsea - Thanks. Yes, I remember that bug, but didn't remember it's #. I thought I'd leave it up to Matej to use what we already got in there or write something new, specifically on the promo videos maybe. What I didn't remember was that the copy was already approved for R2 and L10n on it's way. So in this case: Copy is done. :)
Is there another implementation bug for this R2 video snippet already? If so, I can close this as duplicate...
Fix & approved copy as by bug 821714:
****
"Celebrity judges and great prizes. <a href="http://www.firefoxflicks.org>Learn more about Firefox Flicks,</a> our global video contest about the power of mobile."
****

I think that's actually the copy for the R1 snippet. Here's the approved copy for R2:
You're the director. Mobile is the star. <a href="http://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org> Enter Firefox Flicks, our global video contest about the power of mobile.</a>
I'm OK leaving it as is, but since it's going to be a video snippet, I wonder if "Learn more" is a better CTA. In that case I would combine the two (and since we already have the "Learn more" line localized, it wouldn't mean that much more work, we'd just have to make sure they're combined correctly):
You're the director. Mobile is the star. <a href="http://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org> Learn more about Firefox Flicks, our global video contest about the power of mobile.</a>
Comment 7•12 years ago
|
||
So a lot of locales have already translated this copy for the R2 snippet:
en-US : You're the director. Mobile is the star. <a href="%s">Enter Firefox Flicks, our global video contest about the power of mobile</a>.
http://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~pascalc/langchecker/?action=api&file=snippets.lang&stringid=ffa3963c918b67fb63661a3e0f6416d859decbb7&plaintext
Because the snippets are all localized as one line (not two lines - so we'd know which line is which) I don't think we can combine them accurately.
So either we leave it as is or we have a third snippet localized.

Copy: You're the director. Mobile is the star. <a href="%s">Enter Firefox Flicks, our global video contest about the power of mobile</a>.
Localization: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=830807 - link in Comment 1
Winston, I guess the only thing Tobi needs is direction on which webdev bugs to file for the video itself.

Also, here's a link to the R1/R2 snippet implementation bug for reference. This replaces the copy-only snippet we were going to run (assuming there is dev time for the video) otherwise, back to copy only :)

Hi Winston, hi all:
Let's make this snippet happen! Here's a summary of all assets:
- Icon: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=818921
- Localized copy: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=830807
- Videos: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=818899
Comments on videos:
- There are 3 different videos, each subtitled for 5 different locales (EN-US, DE, FR, ES, PT).
- If possible, we'd like to rotate all three videos. Copy always stays the same.
- If roation is not possible then I "randomly" pick the video titled "Ic" to be used (Actually it's my personal favorite).
Sounds good?

I like them all, so I'm fine with whichever one we choose, I just think that "Ic" suffers the most in translation, so if these are going to be localized, I'd suggest one of the others if we're only showing one.

Hi Chris - Would you be able to move this forward? Thanks a lot.
+Rainer
Hi Rainer - I'm not sure how this'll work now, but I think I got a big chuck of video work here that needs to be done (sorry): Assuming that we can have 3 videos, each in 5 versions, we need all those 15 videos to be converted to the "usual" web format, uploaded onto the Mozilla video servers, and all with link-names that make sense. Could you do that?
Comment 17•12 years ago
|
||
tbx: Just need to verify that this snippet will be the normal out-of-the-box video snippet that we have done before, but just with the flicks related videos.
All we need is the URLs for the 15 videos in this bug and we can copy/paste the snippet 15 times and adjust the locale and URL of the video individually.

Just to repeat and be ultra clear:
15 snippets, 3 types, 5 locales in EN-US, DE, FR, ES, PT.
Strings for these 5 locales can be found here:
http://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~pascalc/langchecker/?action=api&file=snippets.lang&stringid=ffa3963c918b67fb63661a3e0f6416d859decbb7&plaintext
Each locale will have the same text regardless of which 3 videos are displayed.
Tobias: When should the snippets be released, what Firefox versions, and how long should they run for?

Comment 23•12 years ago
|

Chris,
- Yes, each of the 3 videos will have the same copy, locales in 5 languages
- I really can't say about the Firefox versions, you please decide. Of course, from my side: The more eyeballs, the better.
- We'd like them to go live as soon as they are ready
- Duration: Would 3 weeks be possible? We're happy about whatever we can get though.

Winston can you confirm the schedule?
After that we can assign to mkelly to implement.

Unless I'm missing them, we still need:
- Text for the tweet share button.
- A link to use for sharing on Facebook and Twitter
- An external link plus text (we might be able to reuse the text from the last video snippet, which was "Visit firefoxflicks.org") that appears above the social buttons in the snippet.

Examples from last time:
- Tweet text (try to keep this under 125 characters in all locales): What if companies tracked you offline like they do online? This winning #Firefox Flicks video has the answer. Via @Firefox
- Share Link: http://mzl.la/JSGZHP
- External link: https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org
- External link text: Visit firefoxflicks.org

Thanks Mike
- Since the video itself excist to promote the website, I think the "share link" can point to https://firefoxflicks.mozilla.org , just like the "external link".
- Do you know how the Facebook-share-part works? If I remember correctly we can't specify copy for Facebook, as they just take the websites' meta info. That's ok, but I don't know about the actual Facebook-share-link.
Hi Carmen!
Would be great if you could help us on the Twitter share text. I'm afraid we'll need to localize it then.
This is our general copy:
"You're the director. Mobile is the star. <a href="%s">Enter Firefox Flicks, our global video contest about the power of mobile</a>."
Maybe we could simply use that for the tweet copy as well??

Correct, the share link works fine as it did before, but we can't specify the test used.
Comment 32•12 years ago
|
||
Since we used the copy "you're the director, mobile is the star" above for a Tweet previously, we could just use that copy for the share as well.
One caveat, I don't know the length of the copy in other locales - it would have to be less than 140 characters including the link.

Carmen - I realize it says "... OUR global film contest..." - This won't make sense when tweeted though? Would you know of something else that we already have translated?
Comment 34•12 years ago
|

Tobi - not sure why "our film contest" doesn't make sense - we've used it several times previously. We have nothing else translated.

Comment 35•12 years ago

Carmen - I was thinking that if a random person tweets: "...Enter Firefox Flicks, our global video contest about the power of mobile..." than it's kind of wrong because it's not the random persons' video contest? On the other hand if you see everyone who tweets ar part of the "community" then... yes, it's our contest :)
I'll prepare the l10n list and post it here in a few.

Carmen - Please confirm that you're happy with this:
Twitter share copy (in the same languages as in comment 7):
https://etherpad.mozilla.org/tbx-l10n-flicks-r2-snippet-social-copy
My understanding is that we have the videos in 5 locales, but 36 locales overall or so. If there's no specific video for the locale then fallback = EN-US video.
Do we have everything together now?
Comment 37•12 years ago
|
||
The EN one is fine, I can't comment on the other languages :)

Comment 38•12 years ago

The snippets have been created and uploaded to the production server under "Flicks 2013 Launch Video". They're set to go out to all GA browsers currently. Winston can enable them at his convenience. There's 15 total, with 5 locales (en-US, fr, es, pt-BR, and de) and 3 videos.
Tobi: A few of the locales (fr and de, I believe) have tweet strings that are longer than a tweet with the link included. I've kept them that way because I don't think it's a big enough issue to block these snippets from going out; users can just edit the text.
In the future, we should aim for a limit of 120 characters or less for tweets to account for space for the URL.
Let me know if you need anything else from me. :)
