User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0
Build ID: 20130201065344
Steps to reproduce:
Tried to print emails using "print", Print preview, and Page Setup.
Actual results:
those windows are blank and nothing prints. I get a blank piece of paper
Expected results:
It should have printed
Yes, very good info. It is strange that there are not preferences (in the Important modified preferences section) about the printer. As if TB did not detect any. Can you click the Print... button and attach a screenshot of that small window (to see if there is any printer in the system)? But please use a .png or .jpg format, not Word .doc.
Wayne, have you seen any bug like this? I only found one filed recently.
Component: Untriaged → Printing
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
I confirm this on Ubuntu 12.10 x86_64 - relatively fresh install
Thunderbird 17.0.2
I get the same result when printing to pdf, an empty page.
Actually the pdf contains some footer (page and date), but the paper print is totally blank.
Printing to pdf or the physical printer works otherwise, from Firefox too.
I can reproduce this with a very simple email - attached.
Also attached the resulting pdf and screenshots of the process.
NOTE:
On the screenshots you'll also see a weird open dialog which pops out of nowhere together with the print dialog and is not accessible (modal parent?) until the printing is over.
I'm not sure if has anything to do with this bug.

I also had a print failure (blank page with only headers and footers) for one specific mail, but it was not reproducable after the fact (bug 878304).

I confirm this bug on Thunderbird 17.0.5 on Ubuntu 12.04. :
- .eml files open but can't be printed
- this does NOT depend on the file content nor on the printer; no saved .eml file can be printed
- print preview shows a blank window
- both the print and print preview function trigger the "Open/Save" dialog which offers the possibility of opening the same .eml file again (!)

The Problem has been solved. My computer crashed; I reinstalled the Operating system and now everything works as it should.

Oh, thanks for reporting!
Gustavo, if your print problem involves .eml files than please look for a separate bug, it doesn't seem to be this one.

Hey miklemak. Glad to hear you managed to resolve your issue. I tried to replicate it on my end with Thunderbird 24.4.0 under Ubuntu Trusty (amd64) and was not successful. Let us know if you ever start having this issue again.
