Details
From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.76 [de] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.17 i586) BuildID: 20010608 There are several fields in the Mail pane which should be, in favour to oversight reasons, merged. Especially the status field should be iconified in order to have a better overview. Then you don´t need a read field anymore, because you can easily see which status your mail has. For instance Kmail displays arrows to signalize which status the message has. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.this is a feature request 2. 3.

(In reply to comment #0) > Then you don´t need a read field anymore, > because you can easily see which status your mail has. The real benefit to the Read column is not showing the status, since the entry is normally shown bold when Unread. The benefit is being able to click in the column to toggle between Read and Unread without having to load the message; and also the ability to quickly sort by Read/Unread status. (Same for Flag and Junk; note that Flag is now searchable under Status, but the Status column does not display Flagged.) > For instance Kmail displays arrows to signalize which status the message has. The icon in the Subject column already has support for this feature, and some themes (e.g. Pinball) make use of it. Bug 22112 is about providing appropriate icons for the Classic and Modern themes. However, sorting by this status requires either showing the Status column or using the menu. Thunderbird bug 227928 (WontFix) requested changing the Status column to graphical icons rather than text. Is that the purpose of this rfe, or is it a dupe of 22112?

(In reply to comment #1) Wow, I can hardly remember that I filled such a bug almost 4 years ago :-) > (In reply to comment #0) > > Then you don´t need a read field anymore, > > because you can easily see which status your mail has. > > The real benefit to the Read column is not showing the status, since the entry > is normally shown bold when Unread. I think I had such an enhancement in mind like Bug 22112 implemented now. > Thunderbird bug 227928 (WontFix) requested changing the Status column to > graphical icons rather than text.
