A previous session is only restored once during a private browsing session. STR: 0. configure Firefox to "show my windows and tabs from last time" 1. start firefox, load some tabs, close firefox (session is stored) 2. click jumplist entry for "new private window" 3. open new non-PB window result: session from step 1 will be restored 4. close non-PB window 5. open new non-PB window result: no session will be restored, session from step 1 is lost. (was already described in bug 848347, now filed separately)
This may require some thinking about the desired behaviour here.
What is Chrome's behavior in this case?

I wonder if it is possible to use sessionstores _deferredInitialState for this.
Steven, this is another bug you could work on :) Getting this fixed would certainly be great!

I'm going thru the PBM bug backlog and updating and/or closing bugs. While I CAN reproduce this bug in Firefox, Chrome behavior has changed: it never restores the non-Incognito session when the user uses the jumplist for "New incognito window".

Changing this bug to enhancement. Please feel free to close this bug if anyone considers that there are no intentions of changing the functionality.

I can see how the people who care to report it might have lost their session due to a misclick of some sort. I rarely used private mode being aware that I might have closed my regular session any time and lose 50+ tabs (recently closed tabs get deleted too!)

Not everybody see this as a bug, although it clearly is unintended behavior from the browser. The regular session is lost ONLY if it is reopened while a private window is open as well. All tabs can be recovered by making sure to close the private window before reopening the old session.
